Remove the handle, undo the graduated ring, a collar should be left behind, it may or may not have a hole on the out side, if it has the hole put a pin spanner in it and release it, if no hole cover the Od of the ring with suitable material, grab it with vice grips, stillsons or multies and turn to release the thread should be right hand, once released screw it out, compound screw will still be retained by the nut, hold the compound and screw the leadscrew out, now release the gib screw if you want and slide the compound off.

Thanks, thought the collar should unscrew but wasn't sure. Handle is off, graduated ring won't clear the locating pin/key for the handle. Wasn't sure if the pin should just pull out. I'll have another go at it.

are you wanting to take the complete compound rest off the cross slide/saddle - if so you need to loosen the two swivel locking screws (S29 - orange 3/8" square head) located on the back side of the cross slide - see picture with orange arrows pointing to the boltscompund rest swivel lock bolts.jpg

If you want to remove the compound top slide from the base then you will need to loosen the four gib screws (S12 - pink)remove the crank handle by un screwing the handle nut (S16 - green), remove the handle and the graduated collar S14. Loosen the Slide screw bearing (S13 - yellow) might need to wrap a piece of rag around it and use multi grips being careful not to damage it). you can then undo the top slide screw and the top slide should then slide off. This will allow you to get to the Top slide nut (S39) which is held in place with a grub screw (S10A).
Assembly is the reverse, just make sure before you lock the top slide nut in place that you screw the top slide screw back and forth a few times to make sure the nut is in the right place - (not to high or low)

    hope that helps

Can't see the locating pin for the handle in the parts diagram. Guess I could just file a bit off it to allow the collar to clear.

Should just pull out, might need pliers or similar.

Nope wasn't going to come out, been in there a long time. Filed a bit off and got it all apart. Should probably drill the rest out and make a new pin.
Thanks Tony for reminding me that I actually have the repair manual in the shed.
