Making a Silicone Soldering Brush
How to make a silicone soldering brush.
You won't believe just how well these work. I wished I'd had one of these years ago. No more burnt small paintbrushes and you can custom make any size of these you wanted, thick bristles, thin bristles, solid etc etc
A great bit of kit!

G'Day Jim,
Just viewed your silicon paint brush video & love it. I have used hair spirit brushes for years to apply straight cutting oil when turning & milling. Cannot buy them anymore & have only two left. These brushes may be the answer.
Thanks for the info,
Don.

G'day Don I've been using these for a couple of years now (same ones) and they are just great for soldering.
I'm pretty sure they will be a terrific replacement for your hair brushes. I have made some where I took my time and made very thing cuts in the silicone.
Let us know how you get on 👍

G'Day Jim,
Bought a silicon baking sheet (270 x 380 x 0.6) for $5.00 at a "el cheapo" shop & made the trial brush using a rolled tinplate handle from an old spirit brush. Does not appear to be enough "bristles", but could not fit any more material into the handle. I'll make a couple using your method.
Regards,
Don.

Thanks Eskimo,
Prior to your post, I had made a couple of brushes as per Jim's video.
I'll try them & see how they go in the straight cutting oil.
Regards,
Don.

Thanks Jim, excellent idea. I'll make one for next time I fit new seamless steel tubing into the lugs of Velocette fork sliders (Oooh what a job, I dunno how I did it the first time using bristle brushes !!! I've wanted to learn more about lead soldering techniques for a while.
