    Default Bendigo- an unusual request.

I'm wondering if anyone in the Bendigo area would be willing to help me out; I've been looking out for a specific model of GMC router that I need the switch from for a project (the handle that has the switch in it). One is for sale on FB in Bendigo. What I would like is if someone is able to collect the router from the seller, take the switch off it and mail me the switch. You can do whatever you like with the rest of the router and the blow-moulded case but it will essentially be junk without the switch. Postage for the whole router would be more than my project is worth.

I can probably help out if you haven't found anyone yet.

I assume its the GMC 1500W one ?

    PM me with some details.

Yes that is indeed the one, I've been looking out for that exact model for ages as I had a dead one and I made a casting pattern to mount the switch / handle off it for a radial-arm saw I rebuilt for my daughter, I'm rebuilding another RAS for myself and want to be able to use the same pattern and make the same switch setup.
    I'll PM you Droog.

    He Pete,

Can you confirm this is the part you are after ?

    Once confirmed surgery will begin

Yes that's the part I need, just the plastic handle with the trigger switch and latching button, also the two screws that fix it to the alloy body; there are two wires that tail from the switch into the body of the machine where the motor is. As much wire left attached to the switch as you can manage would be perfect. Thanks again.

Surgery has been successful (I hope)

Here is the trigger switch and handle

Having an electronics background and as the remains are of little use to anyone else, I suggest sending you the remaining electronics ie the speed control / soft start. They are small and have little weight so should have minimal impact on shipping.

Let me know if there are additional parts you would like me to include before I get a quote.

Sorry just saw you want the two screws holding the handle to the alloy frame, have added them now but not in the pictures above.

Thanks Droog, that is great. Funnily enough it was the speed control magnet doohicky that died on my router all those years ago that caused it to sit on a shelf for a decade and become a parts donor for the RAS. If you think the speed control and soft starter might be useful, probably best hang onto them, they were a great feature on a router but I would not have the knowledge to use them on any of my projects. If you can't use them, by all means pop them in the bag.

Well a perfectly good wood router with lots of fancy features has been put to death and I am now in possession of the bits I need to get a clunky, horribly dangerous, obsolete radial arm saw working! I'm rapt! Thanks heaps to Droog for helping me out, I've been on the lookout for this part for months. Another forum triumph!

I will try and give it a fitting burial.
