Electrical Maintenance Technician wanted
I have a Ruhla universal milling machine.
Built in the late 70s or early 80s.
At this time I'm having problems with the spindle motor being slow to start and cutting out.
I suspect the spindle motor is not getting all 3 phases.
I need to find a electrical maintenance technician in the Perth metro area, who can test the relays, motor and transformer.
Plus order replace or fix faulty componates.
I'm hoping someone on this forum can make a recommendation.
Thank you MarkI've become a tool of my tools.

Hello Mark,
Before you go any further I would check all the fuses, make sure that they are at least finger tight and not loose ! Those bottle fuses have a habit of becoming loose.Best Regards:
Baron J.

if it was mine: I would start from beginning.
Those old US style fuses will be hard to get if you need a replacement.
The overload down in the bottom right with orange button is a ring in and appears to be hanging in mid air as I believe it is was fitted as a stop gap measure as an original original could be found (this in fact makes the board illegal ((hanging in midair)) in the eyes of the authority) ...but hey...if it works and gets one out of trouble for a short time then why not?? but not for ever!
Most of those contactors/relays are so old I doubt the is enough silver left on the contacts....and I dont refer to the possibility that the silver has worn off due to use over the years but rather they are so old our atmosphere has eroded the silver from the contacts.
I need a trip to Perth..fly me over and I will fix for free ...parts at your expense.
Seriously tho I would make a new board.
you need a sparky with control experience...not your average domestic household sparky...ask the question to the sparky..do you know electro/mechanical control wiring.

I renewed all of the fuses when I first got it they are not the problem because the mill runs.
I have been running the mill for about a year now.
Diagnosis was complicated by a damaged motor speed selector switch inside the spindle gearbox selector box.
Getting a replacement was not a option so I ran the wires to a control panel and replaced it with manually activated rotary switch, when I sorted mechanical problems inside the selector box.
A interlock switch on the gearbox selection locking bar can be a pain too because their is no external indication that it has been activated.
I intend to add a pilot light to the interlock.
I have made enquires at a local machining shop to see if they can recommend a technician, I'm waiting for the boss to get back to me.
So I'm exploring all avenues to find the right person.
That overload thing that Eskimo pointed out is offset a little to one side its not a problem
I know the machine going to be expensive to fix but what isn't.

It might be OK. They come with solid bars that insert into the terminals of the contactor. Whether that is considered solid enough under the regs I don’t know.
