    Default New Switch for Bandsaw

    Good Morning All,

I've bought a new switch for my bandsaw. Before I wire it up I want to confirm I can put the earths to the frame of base of the bandsaw (instead of to the metal frame of the original switch - photo drill press 3 shows the earthing). I've attached a few photo's that will hopefully clear up what I'm saying.

    Ben.

1.Is the new switch all plastic? 2. Does it have any provision for an earth screw?
If 1. is yes and 2. is no , then you can earth to the bandsaw metal frame, making sure that it is directly on the steel frame, NO Paint, bare metal only.

    Hi,

Yep the new switch is all plastic and doesn't have anywhere for the earth wires.

    Cheers.

Looks like you will end up with the short piece of “Earth” wire left over. (The bit that currently runs from the switch to the frame.)
    Is that your understanding?

I was slightly horrified when I went to shorten up the cable on a second hand thicknesser I’ve just bought. (Woodworking - sorry)
Upon opening it up - the earth was simply left unconnected.

    Hi Skypig, Guys,

My Chinese BF20LB Optimum clone was like that, the incoming earth wire just floating in mid air. The earth bolt was there, just nothing connected to it. Motto do an earth continuity check before powering up !
    Best Regards:

Two of the machines I've opened weren't that rough, the earth had to be connected as otherwise they wouldn't have been able to use it a neutral (3 phase machines with 240V controls so needed a 5 pin plug/socket which I guess was't available.)
