I would just like to say that there is some awesome information in this thread, since deciding to purchase two of these units for the lathes and will convert another one over when it gets going again, I wanted to know if anyone has decided to use the external controls for the control side, so using the X1 and X2 for forward and reverse and the external potentiometer configuration and what size pot are people using? I have a 5K and a 10K pot to try out for this function to see which wiper is going to give the best control of the unit, also I wanted to use the original switch for forward and reverse so that is simple enough because now it only needs the common wire feeding to the switch and one wire on each control function going to X1 and X2 to control the vfd, I will be using a contractor on the control side for the stop function as well, I am also contemplating the jog function, we have that on the lathe at work and I have always found it a useful function just to see how the job is running at a low speed. Just to be clear I will not be using any controls on the output side of the vfd to control the motor.

Tinkerer 77 / Steve, I will follow your post with much interest as I have been contemplating doing a similar thing with my Ecogoo. I have fitted mine to a large radial drill and would love to operate the unit using the original machine switching. When you succeed with the remote operation could you please write a bit of a post with pics as I am having difficulties comprehending the electronic language in the manual. Thanks for post to spark my interest in this project

Had my first small glitch with the Ecogoo on my hydraulic press last night.
Started it up - and it seemed to be running a bit slower than normal, and varying a bit in frequency.
I checked the display and it was down to about 38Hz - even though it’s normally set to 50Hz.
It’s still configured as variable frequency controlled by the pot on the front, so I confirmed the pot was at the max setting (it was) then turned it down a bit - and the frequency reduced.
I stopped the motor and gave the pot a good bit of exercise. I could then get the freq up to about 43Hz.
Started the press again, but could see the freq slowly going down.
More pot wriggling got it back up a bit again, but similar behavior when it was running.
It’s been pretty cold and wet here the last couple of days so I was starting to think that had messed with the pot range somehow.
I kept using the press for another few mins then suddenly it sped up and was back to the normal 50Hz.
Just tested it again now after sitting for 24hrs in the cold and it’s fine.

The pot on my lathe SAJ VFD did the same thing.
Turned out to be dirt from my fingers leaking down into the pot. I replaced the pot and all was OK.
I don't know if it dod it again because I subsequently sold that VFD
The cheap eternal pot on my dual grinder VFD hasn't played too well with the grinding dust and has also had to be replaced.

Hi Steve, Guys,
I've had issues with metal cased pots suffering micro condensation internally, particularly with rapid changes in humidity and temperature. Plastic cased ones don't seem to be affected, or if they are its not as much.
I recall checking a box of 50 and discovering that almost all of them had fallen in value overnight. When checked again later in the day most had returned to the marked value.Best Regards:

Thanks John.
My gut feel is that it could well be something similar going on here.
While it’s definitely not in a cleanroom, its not likely to be a dirt or oil issue as it was in Bob’s case.
The fact that it came right after running for a while also fits with something “drying out”.

Hi Steve,
Its difficult to know what to advise, taking the metal cover off the pot could help, but its 50-50 ! Replacing it with a plastic cased one, since those are usually sealed could be the cure. At least if the problem doesn't re-occur when/if you remove the metal cover you will know the cause. The other possibility is to blow warm air through the controller or cover it with a blanket. I stuff a bag of desiccant into the mill control box when the weather starts to change. Of course the only problem with that is you must remember to dry it out regularly. Though I do keep a spare bag in a lidded glass jar.
This is the reason you get flight rust on metal surfaces, moisture in the air condensing on a cold surface. Although I do use a 220W frost heater in the workshop during the winter.Best Regards:

Thanks.
First time it’s happened, so I’ll just monitor and see if it occurs again.
My best solution in this case would just be to disable the pot and fix the freq to 50Hz as it doesn’t need to be variable.
I mainly wanted to post the experience in case someone else has a similar issue.

Any further reports on how people are fairing with these vfd's?
Getting very close to when I need to make decisions for quite a few machines that require either VFDs or some alternate method to utilise single phase power.

I would like to know whether they are covered by any sort of warranty. I have 2 of the 380volt type, one of which is showing an error code that I cannot clear.

Hi Steve, the code is OCH. I have not contacted Ecogoo as yet because I'm not really sure how to go about it.

I'd start by emailing them or trying the "chat" function on the contact page of their website: ecogoo inverter contactecogoo
Do the usual tech support things - include the model number and serial number, and a concise summary of the issue (ie error code and when it occurs).
If you're not used to dealing with the Chinese technically the main thing I've found over the years is to keep the sentence wording very clear and simple rather than trying to describe the issue in too much detail. Often its run through a translator and the simpler it is, the more likely the meaning will be kept in the translation.
And NEVER ask a question with "or" in it - ie "should I do this, or something else". Either just ask the first part, or make it 2 separate questions that can be answered with a yes or no. If you don't then 100% you will get a simple yes/no answer to your double question and have achieved zero from it
