Perhaps they are, but what brand of panels are you quoting the UK price for John? There’s a huge range in quality of panels. The LG panels on that website are among the best in the world. My LG panels have a 25 year warranty. You can get very cheap Chinese panels here too.

Those solar panels seem very expensive compared to what they cost here in the UK. A 350 watt panel is less than £100 today delivered. I paid £100, seven or eight years ago for a 300 watt panel to put on the roof of my camper van. A 16 panel array is only £2k including the roof mounting hardware, though the grid tie inverter is extra on top of that.
Solar prices in Australia tend to be quoted as full system prices with inverter.

Price varies in different places (competition, different government incentives) but based on your 2k plus inverter, sounds like they are probably similar.

Short answer to your original question is no.

66kV lines, and voltages above (transmission lines) have no customers. They go from a source of supply to a distribution point - where the 66/11kV transformer (in this case) is. Lots of ancillary equipment involved in 66kV and above lines. Re-designing and installing costs a fortune.

I worked for 30 years for the supply authority in W.A. Very rare was it for a site to be cut into a transmission line - for one customer. I can only think of perhaps only 3 in W.A.

    Hi Chris,

The panels are polycrystalline ones, I understand they are made in Germany.

    John,
I'd be absolutely stunned if you could buy a German made 350W panel for 100 pounds. If you can, they must be massively subsidised by your government.
