Wow! That's interesting and really worth knowing!
I might contact the manufacturer directly and ask if all their 9100 series do that. I'd certainly be buying at least one!
Cheers

Hi Joe,
Three phase to the house in the US is rarer than it is here. Their household reticulation system uses step down transformers spaced along the street, but they use a centre tapped secondary on the transformers, with the CT being neutral and the ends of the winding being L1 and L2 respectively. Thus at the house entry they give 115V between L1 and neutral or L2 and neutral, or 230V between L1 and L2. L1 and L2 are the same voltage, but 180 degrees apart, whereas 3 phase legs are 120 degrees apart.
Older installations there are still largely single phase, with dual phase generally being limited to newer or renovated properties where there are heavy loads involved, for example high power ovens, electric water boilers or large A/c systems. Rotary phase converters are fairly common for workshops utilising retired 3 phase industrial equipment because quite often there is not 3 phase in the street even if a client is willing to pay to upgrade their feeder and switchboard to access it.
I don't know about mainland Europe, but certainly the British system is quite similar to our system, with 3 phase reticulation to street level, and the majority of homes connecting as single phase, but with 3 phase available upon request, based upon need.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Hi Malb, Guys,
The three phase plus neutral with an armoured cable carrying earth runs just under the footpath on my side of the street. The houses are connected to one of the phases alternately as you go down the road.
When I bought the property and moved here the houses weren’t even built and the electricity cables hadn't been laid. When I enquired about having three phase installed I was told that it wasn't possible. About 11 years ago when I put the workshop up I asked again about three phase and was quoted just over £5k ! I could have dug the hole and trench myself for a tenth of that including the 32 amp cable.
Needless to say I still don't have three phase. Time and VFD's have solved that problem.Best Regards:
Baron J.
