Noisy lathe at startup.
Hi all, my recently acquired Sheraton Conquest 10 sounds like it isn't happy on startup. I've attached a brrief vid. sometimes it goesd on for longer, but of course, everytime I went to record, it only groaned briefly.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. (Starter condensor?)
Is it something I need to fix in a hurry?
Thanks

Hi Vic,
Have you checked the gearbox oil recently ? It sounds like dry gears until they get splashed with lube.Best Regards:

Thanks. The headstock reservoir oil has been changed and is at the proper level.
As far as I know the quick change gearbox gears get lubricated but don't have a reservoir.
In person, the sound seems to come from the rear, around the motor area.

Single or three phase.
If its single it could be a loose centrifugal switch?
If its single I would be checking that out before running it again. If it comes off that can make a real mess,

Update
I had an electrical guy have a look and he cleaned it up and found part of the inside casing rubbing against the rotor. Sorted that and it runs smooth as silk now!
