New Control Cubicle
On track to re-build the control enclosure, and revise the spindle controls, on my turret mill.
Spurred on by getting a Raspberry Pi running LinuxCNC (under test).
The existing control is a lash-up using an old Dell desktop computer running LinuxCNC and parallel port break-out board.
I am looking at a 600 H x 400 W x 250 D one from Elektron-BAAL on Ebay.
The enclosure will have, starting at the top:
- external E-stop button,
- air vent out,
- VFD braking resistor,
- 80 Vdc power supply,
- 2.2 kW VFD,
- stepper motor drivers,
- Mesa ethernet adapter card,
- Raspberry Pi,
- Low voltage power supplies,
- cooling fan,
- cable entries,
- air vent in.
Can anyone comment on the quality of items from Elektron-BAAL ?
Are there any other economical suppliers ?
Keep well,
John.

I thought about an electrical control box for my upcoming cnc conversion, but looking at the electrical control/meter box on the side of my house I see it is quite flimsy, I know there are better ones around so I will want to actually inspect before I buy, maybe those on Ebay are the better ones, if you go ahead perhaps report back on what they are like.

Hi Guys,
The embedded and wall mounted meter enclosures here in The UK seem to be made from some kind of glass fibre reinforced plastic. There are metal ones around but are very expensive in comparison.Best Regards:

Just Iooked at this forum as you said you would be posting here.
I can give a honest review after buying one last month.
I wished I bought the Vevor (carbon steel?) brand on eBay.
They advertise as having a a 1.5mm cabinet over 1.2mm and a 2mm backplate over a flimsy 1.5mm I got in a 600x400x200 enclosure.
I was happy enough with the cabinet strength and finish, but the backplate flexes a lot, 2mm would have been a lot better.
Even using large mudguard washers in each corner it really needs a support in the centre.
The Vevor also comes with a coiled earth wire to the door.
So I would go the Vevor brand at only a few extra dollars.
If your on eBay plus look at it a few time and I usually see a $10 plus discount come up on the listing.

I just looked and Vevor don't seem to have that size at the moment, and this one is really cheap enough.
It's why I bought mine from them.

If you're willing to put a extra support bolt or something else like myself in the centre it will be fine.
I just find the 1.5mm backplate to flex a bit over the distance.
Maybe it's fine, but being a machinist I want everything rigid, lol
It's the first enclosure I've bought new and from eBay.
