Default Herless SSB 5MK and Maximat V10 mill drill any good?

    Hi all,

Thanks for the opportunity to ask this question.

I looked over a Herless 5MK today. Tested its back lash, ran it at fast and slow speeds, tried moving the tail stock, engaged the feed screw. Seemed sound. My skills are not up to trying to turn anything with it as yet.

Also part of the deal is Maximat V10. This was mounted to its own rather hefty cast iron base and table.

Steadys, 3 and 4 jaw chucks and cutting tools are included.

The asking price for the lot is $2000.

    Is this a good buy?

If the maximat is the tiny little morse taper 2 spindle its really only a drill press at best. I think its a good deal but don't expect to do much milling with that.

If they suit the size of work you want to do then 2k is a fine price.

Hi Vytis, Welcome to the forums.

Are you thinking of converting them to CNC machines ?

Hi Baron. No. Just occasional use to make bits for wooden model ships and model Gauge 1 trains.

    Hi Vytis,

    Thanks for your reply.

I wondered if you were going to do a CNC conversion and that was why you posted in the CNC forum rather than the General one.

You probably would have had more response to your question in General.
    Best Regards:
