Wire wheels.
I had two 200L steel drum lids that I wanted to de-scale the recessed rims prior to adding applying rust converter so I got out the angle grinder with the wire wheel on it and found it was a neat fit into the recess. The reason I went for a wire brush is I did not want to remove any metal. Full face shield and tight fit leather gloves and muffs. After about 30 seconds of wire wheel I started feeling itchy looked down the front of my shirt and . . . .
Every red dot is a piece of wire that has stuck into my shirt but quite a few more didn't

That's when I went a got my leather apron.
I've seen this before just never thought of taking a picture of me looking like a hedgehog.

Been there, had the hedgehog experience.....
The wire shedding seems to vary a lot depending on the wheel and workpiece, but like you I use a full face shield. The idea of one of those bits of wire hanging out of an eyeball makes me go cold.
I've only had a leather apron for a few years, but find more and more uses for it, and they are so cheap its crazy not to have one around.
Apart from when using wire wheels, they stop burning a hole in your shirt with the spark stream from the angle grinder, and you can use it to cover other sensitive parts from sparks/UV when grinding/welding (including but not limited to body parts).
