For $20 you get a big mill, with a kurt vice, unlimited endmills/drills, free coolant, unlimited supply of material, and most of all you do not need to clean the swarf

Someone in the comments mentioned there is even a simulator lathe game

Perhaps for students? Soon we will see educational institutes using this tech, maybe?

Probably the way of the future, for machinists and most other trades.
At least there's no expensive machinery that the student can stuff up.
I know maritime training have a Simulator, that a friend on here used to look after.
Dr's have been doing similar for some time, I believe.

Similar to flight simulators, I can see the benefits but manual machining is about feel. They probably have something similar for welding

They do indeed use a virtual reality welder for training! It is VERY realistic, sound and all. I've used one at an engineering exhibition once and it was amazing! No gas wasted, no burns possible, no wasting metal or wire.... I think it would be as good as actual welding for odd setups and complex position combinations on expensive parts - before you stuff up a real part.

Thanks Joe for reminding me, I was watching You Tube on making harvesters.
When they come up with a new design, they actually have a virtual robot welding machine, to check that it's possible to be able to weld where required, so that the nozzle can be place at the required angles, locations etc, without fouling on any thing.
I think it was in the John Deere factory.
