    Default Green Hammertone Paint.

I am looking for green hammertone paint, Not advailabe in Bunnings or Mitre 10 in Alice.

I got Dads old bench grinder and I would like to clean it up and give it a coat of paint before I put it to use.

Don't know how old it is, probably older than me.

buy standard green metal enamel and put petrol in it , it will give you the hammertone effect. Or buy blue hammertone and add yellow paint to make it green.

    Default Green Hammertone Paint

Wattyl Hammer Finish have two different greens in their colour line up; Rich Green & Silver Green. The challenge is finding a stockist of 1L tins instead of 4L.

    Hi gents
I'll bet the shade is an apple green color which was a color for some bench grinders and some Taiwanese drill presses.

I too, have been searching for that specific shade for over ten years.

I think it was the Australian Chem tech line of hammertone paints that had this particular color which I used to refresh my D/press with.

Inexplicably they stopped offering this particular green.

I had also heard that mixing silver and green would give a hammertone like finish.

Iron Triangles idea should work too as yellow and blue mixed used to give green with the kids color pencils-crikey! That was a long time ago.
It will be interesting to see how this thread progresses.

Here is a link from Pro-Tec Paints color chart which the sample 1810 is close.

What's the idea with the petrol, does it react in particular way, rather than just thinning the paint?

Does mixing silver with a colour like green give a different effect compared to say mixing blue & yellow, which just changes the tint?

I too looked in vain and could find no apple green and ended up settling for Wattlys silver green.

You can see the how closely the colours (don't) match because only painted the base (which was extremely rusty), the custom made LH guard, and the tool support posts. The body of the grinder and RH guard are still the original colour.

I did some googling on DIY hammertone paints and found the following.

    madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=24219.0

    and here

It seems as though there are good and bad hammertone finishes and that silicon may play a large part in forming the hammer finish.

    Thanks for your replies.
I will give the enamel and petrol with some old paint sitting in the shed.
Looking at Bob grinder I would be happy with the Wattlys silver green.

The Alice address for protec is for mobile phones and computers.
While looking this arvo I came across Topline paint, they have apple green in their, Australian Standard Colours.

The leaf green in the Topline Hammerlink Paint chart looks just about right right for my purposes.

I will chase them up locally.

    Thanks

Dunno if it's just changing fashion, weird the green seems to have just died after being so ubiquitous. If the grinder is Aussie, likely it's Galmet as half the industry used that. Was getting difficult to find off-the-shelf 15~20 years ago and basically non-existent 3 or 4 years back at a couple of the big paint places, last time I tried for a quick in and out raid.

I had a chat with the new manager of Dumb and Dumber in the club the other night, I ask him about hammertone green, He said that they have a Spectrophotometer and bring a sample in and they should be able to colour match it.
I took them a sample in and this was the result, now have to wait till the base arrives from Darwin.
    Fingers Crossed.

Alice Crash can colour match and should be able to supply in a DIY friendly paint base in small quantities for you. I’ve sourced touch up paint from them for equipment cabinets at work previously.

    Update:

Dumb and Dumber let me down, they said Haymes paint can’t do it.

Alice Crash said they can colour match if they paint it, they don’t sell paint retail.
I have to take the missus to an appointment in Alice tomorrow so will try the former Two Dogs now Mitre 10 for Wattyl Silver Green, when they were Two Dogs they stocked Wattyl not sure what they do now.
