Default Mr Crankyboots and dealing with businesses who won't provide an email address

I had occasion to ring my ophthalmologist this morning.I wanted to ask if a referral needs updating.
I am going to my doctor later in the morning and wanted to ask family doc for another referal, if necessary. Fortunately, I had provided enough information in the Opthalmogists call and to their credit they responded in 20 minutes as I did require a new referral.

It seems that the staff of some other folks I deal with will only respond by phone the next day or perhaps longer, unless there is an emergency.

For a lot of these businesses there is no email address but they have mine.

However looking around the are quite a few entities with whom I have interaction that do the very same thing. There are times when you need a quick response and it is denied to me. It is not too often when I require a rapid response, but when you need it, you really need it.

Since I don't trust the email carrier I am currently using, one of my New Year resolutions is to change to a "secure" email provider.

If an entity I deal with won't supply me an email contact, I shall not give them mine.

Those with no email address can deal with the same restrictions they wish to place on me. They call me and I may respond in 24hours.

No blaming Covid short staffing either, as I had noticed this trend over the last few years in pre Covid time.

OK!, If I do not rate highly enough to them as a customer, to rate a quick reply (only in some circumstances) the same rule in reverse shall then apply.

If they want my email they need to supply an email address in return.

I will add ,with the shoe on the other foot this time, those who do supply an email address to me are mostly pretty darn good in replying to my emails in a decent time frame.
    Thanks for reading this.

If i were a medical specialists i wouldn't hand email address to patients, because if they miss a communication and you die as result or get sicker ect , they might get sued. However they might want to contact you via email to confirm an appointment which is fine imo. The medical centre i go to don't hand out email addresses, communication is all done on the phone or in person via reception.

All the medical people (GP, respiratory physician, endocrinologist, renal specialist) I go to communicate (quickly) by email.
They answer medical questions and will renew prescriptions by email usually within a few hours.

Grahame. Something sort of similar that really ticks me off is the amount of businesses that have a web page with a "contact us" facility where you can fill in a form asking about what ever it is but you never get a reply. I would much rather deal via email these days as then you have a record of who said what.If I bother to call them after not having a reply to one or more "contact us" emails . I've found when you say "no one got back to me" its like "oh we have no idea why that didn't happen" They are usually quick to whinge about sales being slow though.Peter

I guess as we get a bit older we get particular in how we like to be treated as a client or customer.

I believe it gets back to respect for your customer.

I will not be taken for granted by these particular groups. If I am good enough to make money from, I am good enough to be treated in a reasonable fashion by these companies or businesses.

Same with Australia post. They deliver my parcel and then they are on the email wanting to know how did we do? I don't think they will ask again as I put down that
did they want a pat on the head for delivering it to the correct address or for not breaking the contents this time-The 400lb gorilla can't be working this week.

Yeah! Cranky old fart .Too bloody right.

---and my response these days to radiologists who say to me "Just pop up on the table"
"I do not pop. I am neither a balloon nor a pimple, and it may be more appropriate to address me as a person". (Said with a smile)
It usually stops them in their tracks, and of course most "explain" that it's just a common expression.
My response is, "Well in this age of political correctness, it might be construed as elder abuse, since It makes me feel humiliated"
    (of courses it doesnt)
    yeah---grumpy old fart!

Someone a few weeks back said could I fax something thru to them.
I said, OK Boomer... I'm all out of fax machines, but will my carrier pigeon work?

FWIW - if you are calling from a listed landline or mobile, and calling a big company who is using newer tech, chances are your phone goes thru their VOIP system, travels thru their CRM software, and they know who you are and your account/complaint/product purchase history before the call is even answered. Same works for emails.

As an addition to what Brian said, another good one is when someone(usually a shop assistant etc) asks "Are you right" , if you reply "No, not very often" it can be a real conversation stopped for a few seconds as they think about it. lol

And here is another one guaranteed to annoy the pzzz out of any senior.
Me! I am 70 and I get " Gidday Mate how can I help you".

This greeting from an acne marked counter jumper who is still yet to shave each and every day.

Me! I am not your mate and require such and such.

As a senior it seems I am also expected by business entities that I must own and completely understand the use of :

    The latest computer
    The latest printer scanner
The latest smart phone complete with necessary apps and a deep knowledge of and how to use and them.

Crikey! I aware of more than a few oldies who are flat out paying their rates let alone having the spare cash so be tooled up to communicate with the necessary business entities and thats only if the said entities deem it necessary to have open communication channels.
