Default Do I have the Flu or Covid-19?

Been pretty crook since last Tuesday. Tried and failed to get a covid test done on Wednesday. They closed early. Got one on Thursday. No results yet and can't contact them direct. Tried email and phone calls but just get automated response. Told Work Cover I was sick and they stopped my payments almost immediately. Hopefully get an answer tomorrow.

Could not see my regular doctor, or doctor where I had covid shots as they were closed Christmas and New Year period until tomorrow. Supposed to be doing physio now as well as volunteer work at Vinnies for three days a week, for a few hours a day but can't do either, because I have been isolating almost a week now.

We are in a similar situation as well. Isolating and waiting for test results. They said we would have them within 72 hours (which was about 8.30 this morning) but considering the amount of testing going on I wont be surprised if its a few more days.
Everyone involved in the testing is doing a remarkable job under extremely trying circumstances IMHO.
I hope in your situation its only a cold.
    Hang in there.

Thanks guys. Hope you all get good results. I was with family and friends on Christmas day and have notified them about my illness. Been checking and nobody else present that day has any symptoms at all.

Bit late now, but they probably don't want to see you without a negative test. Protocol after a positive case visits, was(?) a decontamination, which probably wouldn't endear you to them if you close the practice for a day.

Had an appointment scheduled for this morning, a few texts from Services NSW indicated I'd been in the supermarket and Bunnings at the same time as a case over Xmas......and they were quite insistent I not attend the surgery.

Got a negative result. Good in one way, but if I was positive I may have been able to claim a payment from the government. Work cover will not pay me even though I was not allowed to work until I got a negative test. This really sucks. I need to pay my rent.

In Victoria you would still be eligible for the state payment, does Queensland state have anything similar?

Couldn't find anything about that. Rang Workcover again ready to have a rant about no payment. Ended up finding out that I am still eligible for payment outside Host Employer hours. Somebody took it upon themself to stop my payment altogether, which apparently was not right. So I get payment including public holidays minus the hours I miss through illness for Host Employer. Not perfect but I may have to settle for that. Doctor wants me to stay home for rest of this week at least.

    Hi Guys,

Do you not have "RAT" test kits there ? Here in the UK we get handed a 7 day "Rapid Antigen Test" (RAT) kit just about every time we go out anywhere. Yesterday the schools were handing out boxes of test kits to the children to take home. They are supposed to take a test before they return to school tomorrow. The only time the authority’s get involved is if you test positive, then you are supposed to report it and isolate for seven days.

I've not tested positive at all, ever, but have just got over a severe head cold along with a light cough.
    Best Regards:

We have RAT tests here in theory - while anyone else could have forseen a need, our federal government did not get any on order when they were approved for use, so they are rare as hen's teeth. Our PM (who is up for re-election soon) has responded by saying that it was a state government responsibility.

When I think about the way the government (both levels) have handled this pandemic, I reckon I would would have been sacked about 3 or 4 times already if I made the sort of decisions on the stuff I do at work that they have here...

Rat tests are currently in very short supply here Baron. This country has been fortunate enough that the virus levels in the community up until a month or so ago were at very low levels.

Then the latest variant arrived and despite the country being one of the highest vaccinated in the world (91% currently) people have gone bat crazy and healthy vaccinated people who get a slight feeling are clogging up the testing system. Rat tests have only just been approved here and despite the fact we manufacture the tests locally, those tests are mostly exported leading to a large temporary shortage.
