I have been there, your right it probably does tick all the boxes . I have nothing against the place but I am not sure I would fit in there or Andamooka. I just don't think I am resilient enough to want to live in a place full of millionaires that just have not finished digging it out of their back yards. I have spoken to a few that live there. Some are rich beyond my imagination but admit it is basically like a gambling addiction and the may hit the big seam tomorrow.

The yanks had old B17 bombers converted to drones and controlled from crewed B17's operating out of the UK for attacking high value extremely defended targets such as U boat pens toward the end of the European phase of WW2, so drones as such would go back to that point at least.
Concept was that the aircraft were to be reduced to parts, were sufficiently damaged as to not be safe for crewed operations, so were equipped with rudimentary radio control features, stripped of all defensive armaments, armor etc and packed with high explosive (capacity considerably greater than regular bomb loads) and flown to the target area via remote control in the crewed bombers, then dived to collide with the target and explode while the companion crewed plane stayed in relatively safe airspace nearby.
Depending on how you would want to classify the control systems, German V1 rockets could also be defined as drones, launch in the general direction of the target with a mechanical gyro system to stabilise flight and a predetermined amount of fuel. Fuel runs out, no thrust to keep flying, nose over and crash into target area within about 1Km of intended target. That takes the drone concept back to about 1940.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Interesting stuff Malb and had to follow it up.
Some info here. https://theaviationgeekclub.com/proj...fes-v-1-sites/
The first B17 drone mission was conducted on Aug. 4, 1944 and all 3 drones failed to reach target, the second on Aug 6th also failed. The 3rd mission also failed and killed Joseph Kenny - elder brother of the future US president. Of the total of 10 drone missions only one was marginally successful against the Heligoland submarine pens. The program was suspended as they were proving problematic in bad weather and highly vulnerable to flak.
FWIW, the Wehrmacht first launched the V-1s against London on 13 June 1944.

Another vote for costal SA, places like Wallaroo/Pt Huges and Kadina right along the coast to VIC all are very nice.
But then again inland a little places like The Adelaide hills through to Barossa Valley/Clare are pretty awesome though could get expensive depending on how much your wine taste's are
Most of these places are only a couple hours at most from your daughter
The area Im in the prices are a lot cheaper and the town is nice... but my work place is at the end of the main street....................................................................

Just checking in to follow this thread. I too, am thinking of a move to South Australian areas, as daughter number 1 lives in Adelaide. The prices of real estate seem quite reasonable, compared to other places.
