Garden Shed Build
I may be building a new garden shed for brother. It will be 3m x 3m. I have this idea about building it above ground supported by four L-stirrup post support tubes 500mm long that I will make from 50mm gal pipe, flat plate and 50 x 200 angle or off the shelf brackets. Some water flows through the area where shed will be sometimes and above ground will be better than a slab. The idea is to concrete the four stirrups into the ground with a footing of 300 x 300 x 600 depth. Two three metre 200 x 50 sleepers will be attached to two of the stirrups on each side and another two sleepers 200 x 50 x 2900mm bolted to these between the ends. Frame will be timber with metal sheet of some sort for walls and roof. The question is, will a footing of 300 x 300 by 600 be adequate? Soil is fairly sandy.
Stirrups will be similar to these -

Forgot to say the stirrups will be in the footings to a depth of 300mm allowing a gap under the sleepers to ground level of 200mm.

Hi Nev, Guys,
Unless you tie the four supporting legs together they will move apart, particularly in a sandy soil. You also have to take into account that over time one leg will move/sink more than the others.
Lots of buildings are on stilts/legs but generally go down much more than 0.6 metres, usually to the solid surface below, but a lot depends on how the water affects the soil and building weight.Best Regards:
