Default Cannot read the Food Nutrional lables

    Hi guys

BaronJ's thread on cataracts /eyes got me thinking. Yeah! I know it does not happen a lot ,so here goes!!

If you are like me and peruse the labels on food packaging, have you have noticed a change?

Did anybody notice that the print size for the nutrition labels been reduced to the smallest printable font size? What next, microdots?

Granted ,as I progress further into old farthood I know the peepers aren't as good as they once were.

However I am able to read a an analogue vernier caliper but can't read the food packagers steenking little print - much of the time

Notice the product advertising and brand name font size is not reduced.

That aside I swear the food packagers / manufacturers are involved in a conspiracy to minimise the risk of customers actually knowing what level of salt, sugar fat etc are in their product.

Reduced fat or reduced sugar pronouncement in much larger font blasted across the front of the package do not tell me much.

They are a bunch of sneaky barstewards. One should not have to take a bloody magnifying glass to shop for groceries.

The diabetic association sent me a letter about fighting for clear information about food labeling . It is to promote the idea for the public to have simple consistent and easily read and understood labels on food.

Talking about it will not be good enough. I will visit my local member for a few politician email addresses to me to contact with the people who can affect this issue most and put some burrs under their saddles.

I am all for it, to enable me to live a longer and healthier life.

What are your own experiences with food packaging nutritional information labeling?

    Grahame

    Hi Grahame, Guys,

I cannot agree with you more ! The manufacturers attitude it seems is not to publish anything about nutrition or ingredients unless they are obliged to ! Making it smaller is their excuse for improving the amount of information presented.

Since BREXIT there has been a subtle change in details on packaging produced for the UK market. Yes informational print size is much smaller than it used to be and imported goods are less prevalent than they were. Ireland is up in arms about the artificial Irish sea border, it seems that they are in a worse position than we are food wise.

British farmers are complaining bitterly that the seasonal workers from Europe are not coming like they used to and a lot of grown food is just having to be ploughed in because it is rotting and not being harvested. British workers do not want these jobs, but will complain that foreign workers are stealing their jobs.
    Best Regards:

There are apps available for both Android and iOS devices that can look it up for you by scanning the barcode with your phone camera

Yes I agree the print is getting smaller, I have seen some of those who have smart phones using a magnifying app to read them. Here in South Australia we have just imported 300 of about 1200 fruit pickers from Tonga, yet there seem to be plenty of able bodied workers collecting unemployment benefits, some thing is very wrong.

I hope my eyesight holds out as-is for a few more decades. I'm moderately short-sighted, but I can read the micro print on bank notes without my glasses...

I wore glasses for many years, then one day a few years ago I woke up and could read everything again. Still can, except for very small print on occasions. No idea what happened but I like it.
