Approx two weeks after you sell it you will have a need for several, thick walled aluminium rings, the same dia as the tank.

Yep, isn't it always the way, and the scrap yards only pay about $1/kg so this tank will bring me about $16, almost not worth it. I released the air in the tank today and it was smelly I suppose that's what happens to approx 20-28years old air in tank.

    Hi Ed, Guys,

The smelly air suggests moisture in the air and corrosion inside the tank ! I'd guess that it might be quite nasty inside. Probably just as well you’ve decided to scrap it.

Especially when you take into account your time cutting a hole in the bottom and removing the valve.

I made a vacuum chuck for my wood lathe from an old scuba tank a mate gave me.
Heres a pic of it when I was truing it up in the RS.
Can post more of it in use if there’s any interest.

The scrap metal yard I took it to just accepted it as it was, I used the proceeds ($16) towards a sheet of 3mm Ally which I used to build a spare fuel tank for the boat, still have 1/2 a sheet left. Haven't worked out what to make with it yet!
