Coronavirus stupidity
I have been trying to comply with the social distancing rules regarding Coronavirus. Restricting access at work to anyone that may turn up there. Transport and courier drivers, customers etc. We have signs and a barrier set up and not allowing anyone into the office. Yesterday two people turn up to clean the aquarium in the office which is owned by the boss. This is done on a regular basis. These two simply ignore the signs, step over the chain barrier, enter the office and start doing their thing. I immediately go to office door and not so politely ask what they are doing there. To clean the fish tank they say. I then tell them not so politely that they should not be here and suggest they leave. The woman in the office adjacent to the main office who is the one who does all the invoicing etc for orders hears me, comes out and says to them it's all ok.
Well after that I then approached her and again asked not so politely, why it was ok to have them there. She replies that if the tank is not cleaned the fish will die. This response really made me more angry than I allready was so I replied with " so it's ok if people die". I then had a few not so polite words with the other part of management who just happens to be the boss's father about the situation and he went to the office and told them to leave.
Now the scary thing is the son would have know they were coming and convienently was not there at the scheduled time. This office is very small and I need to be in and out of there while doing my job numerous time a day. I did not want to be in a such a small space with these people because of possible risks. To make matters worse, I am 66 and and have existing respiratory problems and waiting on a speciallist appointment for a recently diagnosed dodgy heart valve and may not fare too well if I get Coronavirus.
What would you have done in a stuation like this?Nev.

I probably would have snatched those tiny little nets they have, and whipped them into submission.

Hi Nev, Guys,
I wholly agree with you ! We went out to go to the super market, whilst they have an attendant on the door, the car park was packed. At Eight in the morning, people stood around in groups chatting ! We drove through and came home. Lemming behaviour !Best Regards:

I'd have done the same thing, as you said "It's OK for people to die". NOT
Down here if you need something like the Vet, you ring them, and they come to the door, you want bolts nuts etc, you go to the door, ring them, they come and take your order. They put it on the table, you don't touch it till they say OK. NO CASH SALES in letters about 150mm high.
Hope EVERYONE is OK

Nev,
Agewise and medically I am in a similar health position to you.
I am apprehensive for my wife and I because if we contract the virus it could end, most likely, in a very bad way for us.
Brain dead specimens blithely ignore the warnings, recommendations and pleas of the authorities blasted at them through all forms of media for nearly two weeks now.
You can't avoid the message,TV ,Newspaper, Radio and on the computer and mobile phone how can anyone say they are unaware?
The Missus walked the dogs around the block tonight and recently moved in neighbor idiots and their friends, a few houses up the street are having a barbecue/party .
Admittedly not a huge amount of people just 4 unfamiliar cars in the street. Ignorant, stupid people playing Russian roulette with innocent peoples well being- just rrrsoles.

I was interstate when all the restriction came in to place, I couldn't even say good bye to mum in a nursing home.
Get back to NT usual big mobs of aborigines groups, no social distance with them, 3 day party going on across the road, people coming and going all the time.
I ask the bloke that came to check we are in our place about it, he ignored me.

Hi,
I'm not your age or have the same health conditions Nev. I probably would of taken the option to go home early or have a long lunch whilst the fish tank cleaners were there. The boss obviously knew they were coming and wanted them to. Are they still going to invoice him or won't they get paid? That might of been the job that was keeping them afloat.
I do get it though. I'm living with my parents at the moment both who are elderly and have health issues. My dad in particular has serious respiratory issues. He won't go outside. The last thing I want to do is catch the virus and give it to anyone else especially my relatives.
When I'm out I do my absolute best not to touch anything. When I get in my car I wipe down my hands straight away with hand wipes. When I get home I wash my hands again. Obviously I don't sneeze or cough on anyone (into the elbow). Some jobs won't allow social distancing. Ie, construction industry or police (two officers in a car minimum).
There are stupid and selfish people around though. The amount of dog poop around our local area has increased dramatically since the lock down started.
Ben.

I did say I would go home if they did not leave. No idea if they will be paid. If any of us at work get the virus then that may be the end of the business , because it's already in trouble again. Operating as a trust because of poor management in the past and nothing has changed.

I'm in a similar position at near as damn it to 70. Staying at home doesn't worry me as I normally do anyway working in my workshop. The wife's cut her outings down to just the supermarket as need be because she doesn't want to risk catching the virus and passing it on to me. I'm very high risk because of age, diabetes, lung problems, high BP and so on, so, if I get it I'm done for. Doesn't worry me overly, as a two time cancer survivor I've come to terms with dying, I just worry about my wife, she's healthy but plenty of healthy people have died. The wife probably has another 30 years left, Whereas, I passed go a while back.

Unfortunately it's not just Darwinism, if it gets out of hand it kills hundreds of very expensive highly trained (and also young) medical staff. Just look at what has happened in Europe and the US. It will take decades to replace these people so that when you or next of kin go in for a run of the mill emergency appendix operation next year there might not be an anaesthetist to attend to you.
