Default 2 weeks of unadulterated shed time!

    Hi all,

Hope everyone is staying safe and well in this current climate. While at work, we were talking about the prospect of self isolating in the event of a suspected exposure to Covid-19.

A couple of blokes including myself looked at eachother and immediately thought of 2 weeks of shed time!

I personally couldn't think of a better and more legitimate way of justifying living in my shed for 2 weeks. Wow, think of all the projects you could knock over if you lived in your shed for 2 weeks?!

I'm in no way making light of the people who are seriously ill and have sadly lost their lives to this virus. I worry for the elderly and people like my mum. It's people in this cohort that are most vulnerable and the main reason for self isolating.

PS. I'm not sick and no one I know is either but that will no doubt change soon!

    Stay safe everyone.

    Simon

My rellies in Northern Italy have been in full lock down for nearly two weeks. They mostly live in small villages and towns. The younger ones are very outdoorsy and are still permitted to solo cross country ski, cycle and run. They love it because there are no tourists and any they spot they dob into the cops (its illegals to leave your primary residents and escape to the country). I suspect there's a bit of bribery going on from time to time about this. There's a sign on the local supermarket door that tells non locals " if you are not from these 'ere parts then f-off"

A couple of the rellies have serious home workshops but have found not having the hardware open a bit limiting although they seem to "find a way". They already post funny stuff on facebook but this has grown considerably in the last few weeks.

I must confess to exactly the same idea.

All of the reasons for me having to take such an action are ticked.
Age, health and underlying conditions and so on are all there.

If I have to endure an isolation why not make best use of my time.

Time to break out the gunnadoo notes.

On a more serious note, I have found a bloke who knows his stuff as far as useful information on the Corana -19 virus goes.

He is Dr John Cambell a PHd retired UK.nurse who specialised in medical education. Look him up on Utube. He has been around for many years or so on Utube well before the current virus came along.

A very well grounded and most informative gentleman. The man will save lives.

Im not sure we should be recommending any single individual, even if they are a currently research active epidemiologist or virologist, let alone a retired nurse on youtube.

On the woodies forum a few weeks back someone recommended the view of an experienced professional epidemiologist who runs the Flu Tracker website out of an Eastern states Uni, but even he's got it wrong.

The most reliable (but still not perfect) advice is going to come from professional groups of experienced medical people like the AMA, CDC, WHO or State Health departments. In groups like these the views of over cautions or lassie-fare individuals are usually tempered by the rest of the group.

I've been re-watching episodes of Walking Dead in order to get some preping advice.

Never seen any of them worry about toilet paper though!

Geeess, as a society we are very good at making problems that never needed to happen!

My Dad lived as a young boy in Berlin during WW11. If he was still here he would be shaking his head at stockpiling toilet paper of all things to hoard!

    Hi Guys,

Not like the UK health minister that said that over 70's should self isolate for four months
    What a plonker

I saw my GP today about my broken ankle and he said anyone with my existing conditions should seriously consider immediate Indefinite self isolation NOW!
I jokingly said “what like the poms?” And he said “Most definitely!”

Found out why everyone is stockpiling toilet paper, someone coughs or sneezes, and everyone gets the s**ts.

Would dearly like to confine myself to the shed for weeks/months, but it still hasn't mushroomed up yet. Coming on 6 months since I wrote the specs for it, yeah, I'm a greedy bastard and want a lot, but are willing to pay for it. Big American barn with mezzanines in both skillions, automated design system can't do mezz in skillions, only down the guts of the centre section, so custom design. Took four months to get the custom design back from designers to cost the thing, then it had to go back to designers for drafting, then has had to go back to engineers for them to check the drafting and final drafting. Has supposedly headed to the local council for building permit now, then once that is sorted, a month or so to pour a big slab and get the kit delivered, give that a month to cure and hopefully the thing will go up in a week or two after that.

Fit into the age, mindset and health categories to qualify for self isolation, have been shedless since 2015 when we moved up here. Bought 2.5acres vacant land to build new house and shed on, but can't start a shed till the house is occupied, (they are worried about people illegally living in sheds that don't meet housing requirements. Really looking forward to having it up in the next 2-3 months so I can isolate myself in it.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

I think most of us are going to have a bit more shed time then we thought in the next few weeks.

Going by the lack of common sense I saw today, I fully expect the government's to announce a full closure of all but "essential" businesses within a week and people to be confined to their homes for a fortnight or so.

I reckon it will be a lot more than fortnight - more like 3 months.

An Italian cousin works as a carpenter/joiner from a home wood workshop in a small village in the Alps and says no hardware stores are open in his district. He's only permitted to work if its an emergency - he makes doors and window fames so not a lot of call for this. So far in 3 weeks of shut down he's only done one paid job replacing a damaged window in a house in the mountains. He does a few odd jobs for himself otherwise he's totally locked down.

I doubt there will be much of an economy left in three months if it lasts that long. Desperate people will turn to crime and riot. Don't think it will not happen here.

People need to be working to keep them occupied. There is a reason why we see lots of social disorder in some less developed countries that have suffered hardship.
