Supercheap Club special sale. scam or false advertising?
Got an email today from Supercheap Auto advertising "10 deals for $10 each"
2nd on the list was a nice little Pelican style case Not very big but still a handy size.
So I went to order two only to find out that
supercheap 01 2020-03-09 20-12-43.png
A) delivery is not available (that didnt bother me as I would have gone to one of the many local stores anyway)
and
B) none of the local stores (within an hours drive) stock them anyway

So is this a scam or just outright false advertising? Supercheap has my details so they know where I live, so if the item is not available to me why advertise it to me? The cheap Flare nut spanner set is also not available locally.
GRRRRR

I ordered some duplicolor engine enamel paint. When it comes to flare nut spanners avoid the cheapies, as they are oversize and round of the nuts on flared fittings. Some other items also not available anywhere near me. I was not emailed though, just went to their site.

It’s funny that you mentioned stock not being available. For interest sake, I searched a lot of stores from Victoria to Queensland and even Wa with no stock of the safe case. I often wonder if these types of items are “click bait” to get you browsing their products.

I think you might be right there. I replied to their email asking about it but I don't really expect to get a reply.
Just found this on the NSW fair trading site.
Bait advertising
Bait advertising occurs when a business advertises a product, usually at a discounted price and does not have a reasonable supply of goods (considering the extent of advertising and the expected consumer response). As the consumer has been drawn into the shop by the ‘attractive’ price, they may be persuaded to buy another item at a higher price.
What is considered a ‘reasonable supply’ of goods will depend on several factors, including the type of goods and what is said in the advertisement.

If it were me I would be taking a copy of the email you sent.
If your email is not replied to in a reasonable time report the problem to the ACCC showing the email as proof you contacted them and did not receive an answer.
Many companies seem to rely on the fact the people are not willing not do this. If enough people do this some action should be taken.
Before the ACCC will take action you must have contacted the company and asked for a resolution.

Hi Peter,
One way to check where or who an Email comes from is to look at the basic text of it.
Now I no longer know what the key sequence is on non Linux machines. But "Control V" used to work in Windlows. Its just "v" on mine. If you carefully read down you should find Supercheap's Email address and often its adjusted to send your reply somewhere else, often the scammer.Best Regards:

Baron.
I'll check that. I do think its is genuine from Supercheap. I'm running Linux mint on my home PC. Works great for what I do at home.
Win10 on the system PC's at work. Still running XP on our ships bridge simulator which has its on LAN.

1) Seems like bait, but maybe it was such a good deal that all the other recipients went and bought them out?
2) I used to occasionally browse SCA's clearance category. Wasted a lot of time trying to find any store that stocked Blackridge composite air fittings:

For some items, your local store can do a stock search to find any store that has them. Sometimes their database just lists none, even though the online store still lists them.
Maybe their emails are generated from stale/unsold stock reports

Do you really expect them to print catalogues or send emails specific to different areas/suburbs, that's just plain silly. I wonder how many areas/suburbs they would have to cater to, thousands, tens of thousands? Not feasable and it's not just Supercheap that have Australia wide advertisemants: Mitre 10, Home, Bunnings, Autobarn, Sprint, they all do it. Besides, you could always order it. If I'm not mistaken, the catalogues, at least, do have a list of areas advertised items are not available in.

Well, yes actully. If they are advertising something to me, where I live, I expect to be able to buy it from the local store. It defeats the purpose of advertising it if it's not available.
These companies do have different catalogues for different areas. I know for a fact that Aldi does for example. On a trip to QLD last year, we stopped at Aldi at Grafton to pick up some stuff. Also got their latest catalogue for that week. It just so happened that I had the same week catalogue from home in the car. They were different. Different things on sale.
Actually if its an email to a member of their "Club plus", it would be easy to generate location specific emails based on the post code of their members.
