    Default risk and hazard training

I captured this image from my works, yearly mandatory staff training. This one is from the risk assessment section. Its related to dealing with the risk of a damaged ceiling panel or something. Just a made up scenario. Its not about the issues with the picture. lol.
I know its just a stock photo they have found somewhere but this is what happens when the people making up the training materials don't have an industrial background.

Can anyone else see the irony ?

I can see at least 4 safety problems here.

Some of these photos are meant to be used for discussion, ie "Is this OK ?"

One of my brothers used this photo of me in a training session he was running.

Unfortunately this one wasn't in that context.

    Hi,

I know what your saying, my place of work does the yearly safety briefs and it's much the same. People with no background experience (or being told they have to do the job) tell the people who work in their area how to work safety.

Don't get me wrong, I want to come home alive and with all my fingers/bits and pieces et.c but it gets ridiculous when we have to move the emergency power cut-off signs higher on the wall so shorter people can see them over the workshop equipment (ie lathes, work table et.c the original signs where at about 7 foot mark) or we now have to wear a face shield and safety glasses when using the grinders because the last WHS bloke put up both face shield and safety glass signs near the grinding area.

The bloke in the picture would be operating above average for our mens shed members.

No guard on grinder - sparks spraying onto power cable
Unrestrained workpiece or is he restraining it with his right knee? Which means he's then standing on one foot.
    Grinding on a flammable surface
I reckon his gloves are too loose and his face shield is a poor choice for workplace use.
Those face shields tend to be on the flimsy side, have no under face protection, and scratch/craze/fog easier than a decent shield.
It also looks like he has a set of knee pads on his waist that look like they would get in the way?

I've probably missed an obvious one - that always happens to me.

Speaking of FL tynes, at the septic tank factory a coworker walked into a raised FL Tyne. Someone, we all had a good idea who it was, left the forks up and parked the FL behind a pile of leech drain bricks. Said coworker went to take a pee behind the bricks and hit the Tyne with bridge of his nose. He was wearing ordinary eyeglasses which broke and punctured an eye and he was knocked out by the blow. Luckily someone spotted him soon after and he was eventually ok and back at work within a week sporting a raffish looking eyepatch. Nothing happened (it was 1969) not even a reminder by management or supervisors.

    Hi Guys,

Along similar lines, I was chatting to a couple of chaps outside the office next to the driveway and single bar gate, when a delivery van came up the drive and drove into the end of the gate. The end of the bar went through the windscreen and where the passenger seat was into the steel bulkhead wall, causing the van roof to be pulled down.

Luckily the driver only suffered cuts from the broken glass. If he had been going much faster the roof would have come right down and crushed him. He apparently didn't see the gate and admitted was on his phone at the time.

I dread to think what his employer said !
