Different names for the same thing in metal working
I was txting Dave J today and during our conversation we got around to different names for the same things in engineering.
Example - Threaded bar. I know at least 4 names for it. When I worked in the power station back in the 1980's we called it Studbar. Some of the old hands who had worked there during construction called it Brooker bar. Others call it Thread bar or All thread.
Baron J - what do you call it in the UK?
Any other things or processes with different names? I'm just curious

Bright bar which some people call shafting and another is drill rod, it's also called something else that I can't think of ATM.
To grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Hi Peter, Guys,
Pretty much the same, though "Brooker Bar" is a new one !
Drill Rod, silver steel rod or ground rod covers that one. Gauge Plate, ground bar or ground plate is another.
Though "Bright Bar" usually means rolled bright steel and Black Bar rolled steel which still has the mill scale on it. Either could be round or flat, though over 300mm wide is usually referred to as plate.Best Regards:
Baron J.
