    Default SE QLD Surface plate

I am wanting to try my hand a scraping. Therefore if anyone in SE Queensland has a Surface plate that they are thinking of moving on please let me know. Around 350 X 450 would meet my needs. I would happily go with granite or cast depending on condition and price.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

If you get stuck have a word with someone that does marble kitchen work tops.

I got a sink cut out for free when I asked. Mine is 30 mm thick just to give you an idea.

Hi Steve. If your just wanting some practice to get a feel for scraping you could get one of the small plates from Carbatec. Only 300 x 230mm but quite handy. It's what I started with before getting a larger plate.

I think the Carbatec option is very reasonable. The price seems right.

Vertex branded surface plates seem to cost a lot much more. Almost double or triple the price.

Insize is another good option but I am not sure who stocks it here.

I bought mine from Insize who had a booth at the MetalTech fair in Kuala Lumpur on my way to Miri (Sarawak) in 2016.

IIRC I paid about AUD 150 for a 300x200x60mm (grade 0) granite surface plate that came with a certificate.

Boy that thing was heavy about 15 kg with the wooden crate and packed in my luggage bag along with a can of TapMagic (deemed flammable) did raise a few eyebrows at the airport

When we landed after our 2 hour flight my biggest fear was that the surface plate has pierced through my bag (we had a hard landing) and smashed that can of TapMagic all over but I managed to get them home in one piece

That very surface plate and can of TapMagic after moving 3 more times are still here with me in Adelaide
