Default DS&G Type 17 steadies wanted

Yeah I know - Buckleys. But if you don't ask....

I'm off to Sydney shortly so will consider/look at any steadies for say 8" centre height spindle machines. I already plan on going to Mick Moyles. Can re-machine the base of something if I have to, which is what I expect.

Also want the gap piece but now we're talking about finding unicorn droppings, not something as common as rocking horse shyte. I expect I'll have to make one.

I just came to admire the optimism.

If you can get by there apex machinery in Melbourne has a good pile of steadies. Call well in advance.

Reckon I'll see if I can find something suitable in Sydney, if not, then maybe check out those Melbourne possibilities on the way home. Worst case I can easily enough make one from a weldment, just the time & aggravation of doing that makes it less attractive than buying something.

Lathe is cleaning up fairly well so far. Might have it under power in another day or 2.

Be nice to have a manual but I'm not paying Tony UKP 68 for one.

There is a poor scan of such a thing.

Thanks, yes, I have that one. It's better than none but leaves a lot to be desired...

I had round-headstock style Colchester Triumph steadies that may have been adaptable. I just left them at Apex Machinery a couple years ago, they were blue.

Never know your luck though. I thought finding an original fixed steady for my Cazeneuve HB500 would be a difficult task but it only took 8 months after acquisition. World can work in mysterious ways.
