Possible cheap answer
Go to u-tube and look for a very smart young man who goes under the name CaLem. He will show you how to do this on a very low budget. Regards Norm

They are not easy to come by.
I've converted a $100 Ozito reciprocating saw. Has variable speed.
I did plan on variable stroke, but the gear was too hard and my mill / workholding too crap. Ended up just drilling with a carbide drill and changing stroke from the factory fixed 24mm to fixed 8mm.
I'm sure it's nothing like a Biax but it was cheap and not hard to do.

Thanks guys, undoubtedly i will end going that way if i cant secure a biax etc. I wouldnt mind paying a decent second hand price, but unfortunately the brand new price of a biax is like us $4000, i believe. Crazy.
I really like the videos Calem does. Very relaxing to watch.
Cheers, Rowdy

May I suggest you keep looking on ebay.de
MUCH higher chance of finding one in Europe.
I managed to get some very odd versions: a 42V version for use in ship workshops and a compressed air driven Biax.Cheers, Joe

to be honest I'm not sure what model he was quoted on but a fellow in tassy was quoted closer to $6.5k AUD from the biax rep, you will find by the way that a Biax isn't terribly great at roughing lathe bed unless it was small enough to build a cradle that would allow you orientate the faces of the V ways parallel with the ground. realistically you are far better off having the bed ground and scraping the saddle as well as the bottom of the TS/HS to suit but should you want to be a glutton for punishment feel free to ring me at the shop and have a yarn about the order of operations and what you'll need to acquire and build before you dive in. I am personally a glutton for punishment and do a heinous amount of roughing by hand using the mushroom style handle in the video below. depending on the cast iron and the rake angle you've lapped your blade to you can happily pull off 0.0005" with a 135mm rad blade which offers a very wide width of scrape. with this in mind you can do a great many blind cycles between spotting/measuring alignment without risk of digging holes. I usually use a very aggressive wetstone when roughing to help average the surface but switch to Michaels precision ground stones for finishing as you can calmly split points and stone the surface like a cretin without loosing any PPI

Thank Marcus, Interesting video too. That scraper looks like an absolute weapon!
I will be giving you a call to talk shop, and thanks for the offer.
