WTB - six step pulley???
Hi all,
apologies for my first post being a request but I am in search of a six step alu pulley for my newly acquired Richardson E39 Drill press.
¾ bore.
the old one has fractured and has clearly been repaired multiple times already over its lifetime.
I found a four step option but I would really like to keep original if at all possible and find a six step.
I have tried most, if not all suppliers I can find with no success
thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum.
There might be one out there but I would not count on it. Best options are to either repair the one you have or make up a new one from scratch. If you have not got a welder that can do Al or a lathe of sufficient swing, there are members here who can help.
Pictures of the item and some basic dimensions would help, as if someone does have a 6 step sitting around they willl be able to see if it is what you need.

Just a heads up that not just any 6 step pulley can be used.
Firstly the V belt grooves needs to match up with the existing ones, as do the diameters, otherwise you may have to change the belt length every time you change belt pulley positions as there may not be enough adjustment available on the DP. If you cannot find one, or repair the exiting, or get one made then a single (intermediate) pulley a 3P Motor and a VFD would at least get you going.

Thanks for the pictures. That thing has cracks all over it, so while it could be welded up, I would suggest that the time and effort to do so would be excessive. There also looks to be two parts to that pulley - not sure whether it is original or not.
My suggestion would be to turn a new one up out of Al. Not a difficult task with the right tools.

if I can make a multi-step pulley, seriously, anybody can. In the end it wasn't that hard, but I did have to spend some time on spreadsheeting measurements and so on, and nibbling away at something that large on my lathe.

Thanks for the responses.
Yes, it’s had a hard life apparently...
Evidently it’s been repaired and modified to prolong its life by the previous owner who did a very good job considering. Yes it’s made up of three parts which vary in size a little
Having no luck so far with suppliers. It seems no one does 6 step anymore.
I will try and measure up the existing pulley at the quill side and look to have another made up maybe.

If you haven't got a lathe that will do it, there are a number of members here that could make up another for you. Probably cost you postage both ways (they would want the original to copy) and some material (and maybe something for time). I could do it for example, but there is likely someone closer.
Probably a cheaper option than going to a commercial machine shop.

Hi China, Yes thanks for that.
I did try them actually. I missed them in my list above. No luck. Best they can offer is a 4 inch, 4 step pulley.
Also tried Adelaide belt and hose. No options either.
Thank you though.
Looks like DIY is my only option at the moment.

Ok fair enough they list hem on their website, but as we know websites quite often do not tell the truth.
