May have, I’ll check for you tomorrow, senility has set in and I can’t remember if we have ditched the rusted out barbecue already or whether it’s still round the back of the lawn mower shed.

I saw a piece like that this morning on my drive to work, it was in the middle of a busy intersection and had a nice raised check pattern on it which would help with grease runoff. The funning thing is it had the letters PMG on it as well.

You a should grabbed it have you seen what the ones with PMG on sell for at the auctions, just to be safe you could have left a orange witches hat in it's place.

I probably should have made it a bit clearer this is not for a BBQ, it is to go on top of a 200mm electric element, that used to have a glass top it will not be use for cooking, I could most likely just use steel but I though that cast iron would heat more evenly

Might be worth crusing the local op shops, see if they have a beat up cast iron skillet.

Reporting back.. I don’t have one
Should I be concerned that I don’t remember taking a barbecue that would have filled most of the back of my Ute to the dump?

I saw a demonstration comparing aluminium and cast iron frying pans.
Both were sprinkled with flour then placed on a gas stove.
Burn patterns showed that heat was not evenly distributed in either pan. So the CI was no better than Al in terms of evenly heating.
But iron does retain heat longer.
