    Hi Metalace,

    Welcome to the forums.

For many years I knew a guy strangely enough called Bob Gates, who did nothing but make make ornamental ironwork, gates and railings ! He had an old lathe, probably from the 1900's that he used to make twists, scrolls and other wonderful shapes with. I remember one very cold winters day being in his workshop stood close to his forge, watching him beating red hot iron rings onto the ends of bundles of six iron rods, then placing them in the forge.

Then when they were cooked enough, his phrase, he would fasten them in the lathe and twist a push them to form an expanded spiral. He also made some of twisted square bar, so you got a twisted twist column. These I was told were for a banisters for the stairs is some stately house that was under renovation. The originals being destroyed during the war years in the drive for metal for the war effort as was the gates and railings around the walls.

I hope that you find what you are looking for, it looks to be a useful machine.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

Hi and welcome to the MetalWork forums

I think you will find they were not sold as Metalace for the whole 25 year period. Between 15 to 20 years back there was a court case started by the original MetalCraft company from overseas.

I understand that they had to change the name and the paint color of the tool/machine as it was regarded as being too close to the original.
MetalCraft was black and orange and I recall the local one was yellow and orange.

The Head of the Man Arts Department and I considered a Metalcraft set but they were expensive and the potential outcome of the court case put him off the idea. We did attend a MetalCraft demo and found out about the court case from the demonstrator.

This Australian company had to change the paint job and livery and some designs but I am pretty sure the name was not Metalace then. It was something else and I cannot remember the name for the moment. It has to be them as these guys were from South East Queensland as is the current company.
