John... sorry just seen the post. Am brobo (Waldown) service agent. Have bought a few parts for the WPD in the past... sometimes you can be lucky and they have the bits to match exactly to the part number, other times a bit of "creative investigation" is required; as the same bits were used across a lot of drills, and if it "not a listed current model"... it's just to hard for them. New 'young blood' running the show... so the old grey hair knowledge is gone. They will have a quill to fit the thing but you may have to change out the spline drive nut... as the spline changed across the models and years.
Let me know if you are still chasing the quill... and I will try to type match it. Bits are available from Brobo in Melb.

    Hi John,
do you actually have the old spindle? They are not hardened and can be straightened to near zero total runout with care. If the spline is worn, that's a bit more tricky but also doable...

    Hi Joe,

My old spindle has a JT6 taper, not a Morse taper.
It's nice and straight but damaged on taper.....someone filed off and added with a brass shim.

I wanted to buy a new Rohm supra 1/32 -1/2 keyless chuck but not sure which one.....I'm no hurry.

Plan A: Send my old spindle to machine shop and shave from J6 to J33..... Get a new J33 chuck....that's it.

    Plan B: Find another spindle with MT2 taper, get a new 5/8-16 chuck with a MT2 - 5/8-16 adapter.
With plan B........ I can get a nice MT2 drill set from 1/2" to 1"

Mine is pedestal, not a bench....so it's plenty of room for MT2.

    Thanks
    -John

    Hi John.
Have you got a lathe and welder and or the skills to use someone else's? You could get or make a My socket and weld it onto the end of the spindle in place of the JT taper.....
If either finding another one or that doesn't help, you could post it up to me and I'll do it for you.
I have MT reamers to get the angle spot on.....

    Cheers

John... just noticed your latest post re quill. Last year I did the exact same repair on similar problem. Belonged to a "trophy mob' in Melb. and was his dads m/c, and wanted it 'bought back to life again'. Get hold of a 1/2 chuck with screw on mount... m/c off the JT6 and screw cut to suit the cuck (just remember to lock-tight it when finally ready to mount. bearings are std off the shelf. A good refurb for these presses is to fit "ball oilers" in the quill casting (top and side, bot)... have to just drill and ream to 6mm for the oilers... the original oiling points block up with and stop the oil getting into casting. From memory, strip down and clean repair paint took about a day!... Steve.

Hi John. I understood the issue. I proposed and offered to weld a MT socket ONTO the end of your damaged spindle.....

    Cheers
