Bead roller
If anyone has bead roller and basic die sets they would like to part with please get in touch. I’m looking more along the lines of an industrial quality unit such as Heine, Edwards or Bramley. Having said that I’m smart enough to realise they are something of a unicorn so am prepared to consider anything that may be for sale. Preferably it will come with some basic beading dies but that’s not necessarily essential. Need a minimum throat of 300mm.

Found this on Gumtree, it's not cheap but that's what they seem to be going for.

Otherwise buy your set of dies and make one, that way you can have it manually or electrically operated, and whatever depth you need.

I always referred to them as swage and jenny. "Bead Roller" would be the modern term.

$1200 for that one on Gumtree is, well... we all know the quote from the movie. A powered unit of similar size and design can be had from Baleigh for not much more.
I’ve looked at buying a cheap eBay one and rehashing it for power and increased rigidity but honestly, if I’m going to do that I may as well just build from scratch. I would prefer to purchase a decent used unit but they are something of a unicorn. Of course if you don’t ask, you don’t know, who knows what’s laying around in peoples sheds and workshops.

These are now sort after by people doing auto body fabrication.
Its a bit like the woodwork scene.
Industry disappeared and the gear was junk and dumped then a few enthusiasts and dilettantes got into making stuff and with everyone posting how good the old stuff was on the likes of feiceburk and instagrub you can’t buy this stuff unless your loaded.
Also like the woodwork scene a few companies started to reproduce improved copies of old classics like the bed rock planes and then the Chinese copied their copies and half decent stuff is now available for us peasants again.
Hare and Forbes get a line of Autobody gear made in China and they get some mates of mine at Motorretro to check it out and prove it. They do make mods to get it to work, the way the Chinese make it initially is a joke.
Its a bit like the Carbacrap Mini lathe, the white shoe man had it prototyped at Maryborough foundry and then got the Taiwanese to mass produce it.
Nice and cheap but every shipment had a change to the design. Always for the detriment of the lathe.
He had to fly over every time to fix it so he just gave up in the end.
I wouldnt be surprised to see Jet who are a huge company and have just bought out a few other players get into the metal side of things in the future.

Swage n jenny is what ducting makers call them, Bead roller is what motor body builders call them.
Yes same thing in concept but its like a bandsaw it can metal or wood... and meat.
I had trouble with the H&F "bead roller" but they come to the party after much wasted too and froing, it still has its faults the main one has been addressed with the updated model being a soft start instead of a jolt(which is super frustrating on tight corners). I still think the quality of parts is questionable and the frame is not rigid enough for its 1.2mm rating as it still flexes sideways on .8mm(it could be rectified with some welded cross bracing between the side plates) , its still a very functionable unit providing you keep these limitations in mind.
Theres no real cheap option if you want a powered machine as the H&F is the cheapest at approx $2k, you could make one or just buy a hand cranked one... a lot cheaper than a proper swage n jenny....................................................................
