Help needed
Gday members
First I have my first lathe it's a qualos Australian built lathe. But I have found a worn gear in the carriage apron. Would anybody know of some spare parts for sale or would any members have a hobb that would be interested in giving me a quote on making a new one.
Thanks
Stewart

Would you be able to pop up the gear specs like number of teeth, diametral pitch and gear style (I'm assuming it's a spur gear?) As well as material I'm sure one of us can help.

A hob is not the only way to make a gear. As Ralph said, put up some sizes and a pic or two and someone should be able to help.

Thanks for the reply. It's a (or was) a worm wheel gear made or cast iron I can't measure the pitch because it is so bad but a rough measurement is on od of 2 inches. How do you post pictures? I have them all on my phone but can't work out how.

When you go to reply to thread there is either a paperclip that lets you attach things or the picture looking button in the second row

So (roughly) 2" OD; how many teeth and how wide are the teeth. Is there a hole through the centre or is it on a shaft?

Thanks Michael I should of said I'm using my phone, maybe I need the app I will try downloading it tomorrow.
The gear has a bore through it and is sized at .750 there where 22 teeth the total gear depth is .970 it has a counterbore bore at one end and a internal taper at the end which acts as a cone clutch. This engages drive to the cross slide. I hope this makes a little more sense hopefully I can post pictures soon.
Again thanks for your help.

Hi Stewart, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, you’ll see a link to take you to the “Full Site”, once you’ve done that, you’ll see the options that Michael is talking about
Cheers

The pictures help, so thanks for that.
That certainly is worn. Not sure how it would have gotten that bad but these things happen
I'd be willing to have a look at it for you, although you would be up for postage and maybe something for material.

I'll put my hand up as a second option if Michael can't. I was actually doing a one-off worm/wheel set at work yesterday and today
