    Default Jacking Gantry

This is a gantry I have made to use under my sheds low ceiling. (Clearance under the shed's central beam is 2.1 metre.)
Total width is 2.7m, the minimum height is 1.9m and once the mounts for the jockey wheels have been unbolted it has a maximum internal width of 2.3 m wide enough to straddle a trailer.
The jacks have 3 mounting heights to give me a reasonable working height.
Its primary purpose for now is to lift my universal mill off the custom steel pallet it resides on.
    The mill weighs 1.3 tonne.

Is there a reason that the jockey wheels are inside the frame???? Just curious as to why.
Like the idea of the hydraulic ram lifting.

    Default Removable jockey wheels.

Kryn the jockey wheels are on the inside so they don't add to the width.
They are only meant to be used to re-position the gantry and will be retracted or removed before a lift.
Most of the gantries I have seen on the internet use castors under the legs.
Having the feet on solid ground has to make it stronger and more stable.
Using the jacks mean I don't lose space to a chain block but it makes good slinging critical.
These beams are designed for a static load with lateral force they will twist and collapse.
Also they are susceptible to point loading.

Looks good and solid, and love the hydro lifts.

Out of interest what are the weight limits on the jockey wheels?

    Default Gantry jockey wheels

Bob 6 inch jockey wheels have a 350 Kg static load capacity.
I had to look that up.
I won't be using them to mobile with a load.
As I can retract them and rotate the castor wheels whilst moving the gantry, they make re-positioning easy.

    Nice job Mark

Not a criticism, but with your limited workshop height did you consider using a double-rail beam with the load taken on the top of the beam rather than slung underneath? Probably gains about 100-150mm usable height.

Dropping the air out of the trailer tyres can be just that little bit extra height you need too - in case you get stuck with something in the future.

    Default Slinging arrangment

Steve I had planed to sling my mill only using slings to save height so a double beam was not a option.
This is the slinging arrangement that I used.
Its not one you will find in any rigging manual, the table and vertical head were unbolted for balance. It worked flawlessly.
The lifting points are specified in the 20 pages of the German manual that I have.
If anyone has a manual for a Ruhla 250x710 I would like to hear from them.

I’d give some thought to having a couple of green slings made to length to basket over the beam and attach to. Could have them made with attached edge protection and leave them on the beam ready to go.
I like the hydraulic lift, rather ingenious.
