I just had another look Joe.
I saw you removed the bottom part to allow room to move.
I'll be interested to see the finished product.

This is my candidate for a scraper conversion, it is a 30 year old Milwaukee Sawzall that use a Wobble Shaft to drive the Reciprocating shaft back and forth. I have already done some minor modifications to allow the handle to be flipped over, that is why the lettering on the side is upside down.

That's the perfect shape!
Being as old as that probably means that all the insides are steel rather than powdermetal.
Good luck and keep photos coming!Cheers, Joe

That looks like a little ripper!
Can't wait to watch your progress.
My power scraper project will have to wait a week or so. I just come out of hospital to fix a hernia. I. A bit delicate ATM!

A little late on this as you guys seem to be almost there with the insides.
On mine I used different thread sizes on the adjuster so you know which way you adjusting the stroke(as the slide is at 90 to the travel it doesn't move), but given it would seem your min speed is pretty slow you can likely just watch if your on the four stroke or the back stroke.

Thats a good point Stu. I hadn't thought of that!
ATM I have nuts for the spacer as I am yet to make the spacer so I can actually see inside and know which way it's facing.
I guess I can just buzz the motor slowly and watch the stroke movement to identify which side is which?
I would have to mark the direction of rotation on the case as well.

You make a very good point, Stew! I think I might use a black grubscrew one one side and a stainless steel grubscrew the other. It would be super annoying accidentally adjusting the pivot the wrong way...

Perhaps you could add a spring loaded stop that you "run into" that lines things up the way you want them?
(this assumes, 1. you can run the motor fairly slowly. 2. that the operator isn't an idiot)

I'm just going to write myself a procedure;
Buzz the motor until it finishes the retracting stoke (all the way in) and then turning both Allen keys to the front increases the stroke.
Edit: I just looked at my previous photos I posted. The above idea actually won't work. I'll have to buzz the motor until it's halfway along the inward retracting stroke AND then turning the Allen keys rearward increases the stroke.
What could possibly go wrong?....... Hmmmm. I think I'll organise some kind of visual identification like Joe.

The first real bit of progress towards turning the old Sawzall into a Scrapezall, a new shaft to replace the fixed angle wobble shaft. The original shaft has a 14 degree angle on the wobble journal that produces 3/4" of reciprocation.
The new shaft will allow adjustable stroke from zero to about 3/8",if I can reverse engineer all the angles and dimensions required to make the rest of the wobble mechanism, from some scaled up photos I got from the internet.
