    Default Q&D Boring Bar

Don't get excited - Q&D stands for Quick and Dirty in this case.....

I needed to cut the centers out of a couple of old wheels - they easily fitted in the DSG lathe, but it was a bit of a reach to get into the welds.
Normal turning tool wouldn't reach, and a 20mm WNMG insert bar just took me to chatter city. A TPMG or CNMG would likely have been more stable but I didn't have anything in a decent size, and was pretty confident the interrupted cut on the welds would kill small inserts.

A couple of months back I watched Kurtis from CEE make a BIG boring bar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjNHjjanehc

I took the idea of using an end slot with a turning toolholder, along with a lot less finesse and a salvaged 50mm diam shaft and made myself a slightly smaller version.
I very rarely use the LH WNMG holder, so was happy to sacrifice it for shortening.

Still not completely chatter free, but MUCH better, and to be fair it had the disadvantage of having the existing heavy chatter to deal with.

Not sure what I'll do with the other end of the bar yet, but possibly put a similar slot axially or at 45deg to allow me to use other toolholders for different situations without having to cut them down.

EDIT: bugger - looks like the title didn’t display well and I can’t change it
