No guesses - my photos must have been uninteresting.

It is a set of axle seals for a wheel:
    IMG_2744.jpg

The originals were shredded. No locating lip remaining, not flat enough to seal grease in.

    Hi Guys,

The plastic wheels on my compressor have oil holes in them ! No grease ! Not that I have ever bothered oiling them.
    Best Regards:

    Default Mystery 9

Some remediation of some damaged blocks on the surface grinder:
    IMG_2983.jpg IMG_2986.jpg

    IMG_2991.jpg IMG_2992.jpg

There are about 20 of these things. Mild steel. They have a sliding tapered block for height adjustment. The thing that attaches to them wasn't tightened properly, and has pushed one side of the top surface down.

First time, as a reference I used a thin strap that holds the sliding block in place, but couldn't get it accurate enough. So, for the second attempt, parallel under the sliding block.

Anyone want to guess what they are off?

dont know what that is pictured.

though I note how long that last name is stamped on the machinist/toolmakers clamps, hate to have to stamp that all the time (mine is 10 letters which I thought was enough)

    Here are the tings, in-situ:

They set the height of the punch blocks in a large sheet metal bending machine.

    Default Mystery 10

    Finishing off someone else's project.

Bandsawing corners off a 16mm steel plate:
    IMG_3687.jpg

    then rounding the ends off:
    IMG_3689.jpgIMG_3690.jpg
(that plate was heavy, and got HOT. I nearly burnt the latex gloves into my skin!)

all so it clears the lead screw on a Hercus AL10000 lathe:
    IMG_3692.jpg

So, a long plate, bolted onto a faceplate, with a slot and some threaded holes.

What does it do??? What is it for???

Is it so you can turn a 1/2 scale locomotive wheel???

    Default con-rod machining jig

It is for machining engine con rod bearings on a lathe.

    IMG_3694.jpgIMG_3695.jpgIMG_3696.jpg

In this case, removing the thin white metal bearing, then boring out the steel, to fit a normal bearing shell.

The slot is to accomodate different lengths of rod; from Austin 7, to Desoto straight 8, and Rolls Royce 6

    Default Mystery 11

A 1/4" Whitworth bolt in the lathe. Part off the head, and then grind some flats in it:

    IMG_3792.jpgIMG_3794.jpgIMG_3796.jpg

and, because this grinding wheel was a little small, file the radius flat:
    IMG_3798.jpg
(I should have used the surface grinder, or the mill, but I always find work holding a challenge.
Round things always just seem to get thrown in the lathe chuck)

So, what will this thing be used for?

Looks to me to be a type of locking key, giving it a partial turn then prevents the part coming out????
    What for, only you know

    Kryn is close.

Its a ruler lock from a combination square:
    IMG_3800.jpg

(not that Rabone Chesterman one, which is an M6 thread,
but I didn't take a photo of the repaired item)

The owner broke it once, and welded a blob on the end of a bolt thread, but it didn't last.
He started welding a new blob on:IMG_3799.jpg
but then came to me wondering why the weld broke.
His guess was the weld was too "hard", compared to the bolt.
Hence my creation of a mostly mild steel replacement.

I think the flat on his bolt was too thin.

Thanks for the answer. What threw me was the extended bit past where the rule slot goes. Plus didn't see the rest of the bolt.
I need a few of those myself, if I can find the rest of my squares, I think I have/had about 4 of the 300mm ones and 3 of the 150.
They keep growing legs and disappear into the other shed, never to be seen again.

    Mystery 12:

    IMG_4142.jpg

I had just cut it open to deduce how it works, so more of a mystery than a project.
