Cugir FU 36 Milling Machine
G'day
Is anybody familiar with the Cugir FU 36 mill? one might follow me home soon, it appears to be in reasonable mechanical condition, electrically unknown but I can get the sparky at work to look it over for me, It's going to be a bit of a project to get it operational again as it has sat unused for years and has now been out in the weather since Xmas.
So basically, I want you to tell me they're great and to buy it
How do you guys run your 3 phase mills in single phase sheds, switch out motors, VFD's, rotary converters? What's the most economical way to go about it?
Ben

That thing is big. Id want to know what the spindle motor draw is because you'll definitely struggle to run that off 10 or 15amp single phase I would think. But maybe you are lucky and its only 4kw.
My mill is smaller but the same era and it has a lot of interlocks and relay logic going on as well as multiple two speed motors. I have 3 phase but if I didn't an RPC or phase changer would be the only option. Id lose too much functionality with a VFD.

That looks like a fun toy Ned
3 phase is the way to go but if you have problems with getting it hooked up or it is the price of a gold mine VFD's could be the way to go.
Assuming it has 3 feed motors on the 3 axis' and a 4 - 5kw motor then a 20 amp 240 circuit would probably run it, maybe not under full load tho with a feed motor working also.
Using 220 - 380 volt VFD's, 3 for the feed motors and 1 for the spindle motor would cost 600 - 700 $ from china.
If the motors can be wired to 240 3 ph then it will be a bit cheaper than that....
