Default Multi purpose tool mounting system

We have just moved into our new house and I want to able to bolt three tools to the floor. A 6 in offset vice, A bar bender and a pipe bender. I have a 300mm 1/2 in plate bolted to the floor and a key hole slotted plate on the base of each tool. Simply drop it on rotate clock wise and nip down the bolts. Swap the tools out as required. Can also change the orientation of the tool in the workshop depending on the length of the job. Will finish off the bases plates for the vice and pipe bender and let you know how they go. So far have cold bent 100 X 6 flat bar with no issues. I can remove the tools and still park both cars in the garage. Keeps the wife happy.

Can’t take credit for the concept but the design is mine, roughed it out on the CNC plasma and finished it on the mill, just need a rainy day to finish off the bases for the pipe bender and the vice.

    Any idea of the inventor?
I posted up here years ago about a DRO cross slide lock mod I made to my lathe, only to see it come up coppied on a US precision Mathews FB site recently.
I always give credit to who ever invented it or came up with the idea.

I've seen a few different floor mounted tool/machine posts. One I was thinking of copying was a socket made out of ~100x5mm SHS set into the floor. It was actually recessed into the floor and had a corner locking bolt, and when not in use it was covered with a 10mm steel plate. I didn't install it in my shed during the build as I didn't have much of an idea where things were doing to be positioned.

Your setup seems a lot simpler and has the advantage that if necessary the base plate could be easily moved and the holes in the floor just filled in or left just in case you wanted to used that spot again.

I stumbled across the idea on a YouTube video when chasing something else. The one on the video was quite agricultural, and that is being polite, I would say hand cut with the oxy and finished with the cold chisel. I have used it twice now and the only issue I am having is removing the bar bender as I need to line up the key holes very accurately. Putting it on is no issue. I tend to be to precise with my projects, I think from memory the bolt heads are 20 mm and I made the large part of the key hole 22mm, another mm or two would not hurt, but having said that once it’s on and the bolts are nipped up, it does not move. This wouldn’t ,t be a problem with the vice but any movement when you are leaning back on the handle for the pipe bender or bar bender is very off putting. I particularly want the pipe bender very stable and square to allow for an angle gauge to be used for compound bends. I have the speeds works bender, the Australian version of the JD squared, once it is mounted up I will post some pics

    Hi Dave, Guys,

The number of times that has happened to me over the years !

Unless you have the money to sue, its not worth the bother. You may have noticed that on all my drawings I have the words "Not for any commercial use" and a dated copyright symbol. I've found my stuff plagiarized with my ID removed several times.

It is nice that someone thinks my work is worth pirating, but it does annoy me when commercial interests do it !
If they are making money out of my work, I should be paid for it !
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

I've seen you have been doing that, good idea.
Too late for my hundreds of previous post and photos from me though.
You would just think an an original inventor, designer would get some sort of mention.

Pipe bender and 6 inch vice now mounted up, very happy with finished product. Each tool can be set up to allow long stock to go out through rear garage door or mounted in any of three other positions depending on projects or how I wish to work.

    Nice work!

In regards to it being hard to line up the bolt heads to remove the post, here's what I would do:
Make up a small plate about 4mm thick for each bolt - with a hole in it the same size as the bolt head hole. Slot it out one side the same width as the hole.
Weld one at each hole and will align the head of the bolts with the holes when you rotate the plate to the removal position and stop the bolt head catching on the plate.

    Here's a quick mock up:

Nice work and I could only wish I had your space these days.
I loved when I had a 8x10m shed, now it's only 7x3.6m packed with machines and tools, though it's a lot cooler in summer and warmer in winter, expecially with airconditioninng.

Can't see how that would not get in the way of the plate sitting flat

They go on the top side of the plate that is welded to the post - The face that the bolt head clamps down on.
Nothing touches the them apart from the flange/flats of the bolt head at removal time.

Edit: Maybe this makes more sense

I follow now. Didn't think it through and assumed going on the bottom plate
