winch
I didn't like that chinko winch much, aside from the high amps the gearbox sounds like yonnies in a tin can.
I made a little travel tower about 20 years ago to use while building my house and I spotted the drive motor on it and thought that might do a better job, not finished yet but it will mount on a pivot bolt and pull against a spring and have a limit switch to stop it just in case I go to sleep while holding the up button....

Hi John,
If that wiper motor is one of the ones with a steel worm and screw, it will pull the centre out of the worm wheel wheel before it will stall. You might need a further reduction gear in there.
Otherwise it looks very good, it should work well !Best Regards:

John it is an old electric wheel chair motor so it should be robust enough and do the trick.....i was more worried about the key,
15mm long and 2.35 thick should be ok but i will keep my toes well back
The spool is 32mm dia and will be lifting max 100 kg because of the reduction pulley, not much torque there, maybe i should measure it.....

Hi John,
I've seen several of those motors from time to time down at the scrap yard, I didn't know that they were wheelchair drive motors, otherwise I would have grabbed one to see if it worked. With them being already removed and thrown in a skip they could be duff anyway. With that long shaft they would be very useful.
I mentioned the worm wheel failure because I have managed to strip the middle out of the worm wheel on a window screen wiper one when I tried to stall it ! The motor just slowed, groaned and speeded back up. When I took it apart it had simply destroyed the splines in the worm wheel hub, it didn't even take any teeth off it.
Anyway I agree about watching your toes, wouldn't want to have your foot under there if it did fail.Best Regards:

No worries shed, ultralight airplane nice what type of power plant will you be using? Mr John Wallis is getting ready to build a manned aircraft sized pure jet engine 4lbs/sec mass flow and a guaranteed 200 pounds of thrust at "cruise" , with a bit more at "takeoff" power settings. My mate Andrew in Melbourne will construct the aircraft frame.

That comment was just my attempt at humour Turbs....
Although I do remember a reporter talking to an aircraft engineer when the first jumbo jet landed somewhere in australia, he said to the engineer that it was unbelievable that the jumbo could even get off the ground because of its enormous weight ......
In a pretty thick american drawl the engineer responded...... heck man if you got enough horsepower you can make a brick fly

With the reduction pulley installed on the rope I don't think you will have any problems with it lifting 50kg with a small winch spool like that.
As you said in the other post the 7x19 stainless steel wire rope from Bunnings is cheap, but I couldn't find 2 or 2.4mm 7x19, only in 7x7 which is much stiffer.
It is available online in Australia cheap though. A small spool will need the flexibility of 7x19.Using Tapatalk

Hi fella's, not much happening here, I am waiting on a limit switch that I need to finish the winch off and the relay and wireless control have to fit behind the motor also. I am running out of room down there as I need to fit a leg that folds out to under the load from the back below the winch.
As the load will sit above the lifting arm I need the chair also so that I can find it's balance point so that the carriage rollers dont have a twisting force applied to them.
There is also a couple of levers need to be fitted and I need to modify the pivot lock as the carriage roller bolts hit it if the pin is not in its hole..... needs wheels also... or maybe i need to make a little crane that folds out of the back of the car....and then lift the chair in with that

Limit Switch.
Hi John,
I see that you are cracking on with this project !
Re Limit Switch, did you see this
Micro limit Sw.png
A drawing that I posted a while back. Utilising an ordinary micro switch, like you might find in a microwave oven door latch.
I've made a few like this, mounted in plastic or die cast boxes.Best Regards:

No I didn't see it, but thank you John,
I have a waterproof switch (hopefully) on the way that I ordered 2 weeks ago on ebay, the 1st seller refunded my moola and I had to order another from another seller. It is physically bigger than what I want but it was only 10 or 11 bucks....

Hi John,
Yes I've seen those type of switches before ! At least my drawing might give you some ideas.
I've also used a cam to operate multiple micro switches in a similar way. I once made a programmed cam switch that operated 8 micro switches. I used an oven rotisserie motor at 4 rpm to drive a shaft with discs fastened to it with notches in them. The original was used to program a glass bottle machine.Best Regards:
