Default Quick and dirty t slot cutter

I needed a small cutter for a 0.3" wide x 0.04" deep T slot (approx 7.5mm x 1mm) for a friend's project, turned the blank from silver steel, cut 6 teeth in the mill with the blank set up in the rotary table. Next heat and quench and over to the T&C grinder, I started to set up but thought being so small there is not much metal being removed and only a 1 inch long cut with flood coolant the lack of clearance behind the cutting edge shouldn't cause problems. It went as planned, in fact I was surprised at how easy it was, material was 1020 steel - the actual cut only took a minute or so. My friend is now telling me the next part of his project calls for a 25deg dovetail cutter.

    Default Small cutter

Hello family guy. Small cutters are a pain with old eyes but a final grind makes the difference. I cut some large T slots in Rapid type B tool holders and had to stop part way thru for a regrind. The difference proves the point. I used the wheel OD and the drop method for clearance. Only 2-3 thou was removed and job done.

Nice job. Are we allowed to know what this is for?

Even though mine are not too bad failing eye sight is a major PIA that only gets worse with age, I've done plenty of regular end mills on the T&C grinder but so far no experience with T slot or slit saws - probably part of the reason I skipped the grinding.

The part is I think part of a sliding joint for a miniature model steam hammer , it's quite a bit longer than it needs to be - the extra length is for gripping in the vice.
