    Default Universal Diving Head Fix

    Hi all,

I've had this DH for some time now. It was thrown in with a "pile of stuff" when I bought my mill. It was in very bad condition and at the time I thought it was scrap metal. Anyway I did my usual, took it apart and cleaned it. With some TLC it got it turning a while back. It still has some issues and one of them was the sliding retainer thingy that holds the indexing pin.

Originally it was one piece cast in with the turn handle but someone obviously broke it off. It had been "repaired" with what looks like a combination of silver solder and welding but it since broke off again as it was in the box of "stuff".

Today I made a new piece. I decided to keep the original handle (because I couldn't bring myself to throw it) and fit and screw another piece to it.

I was concerned it would look terrible and not be strong enough but I surprised myself. I'm happy with the result.

That is a well engineered repair. And a nice finish.

Thanks guys for your kind words and encouragement!

I'm off to use it now to make a couple of hand knobs for my pan brake project.

Having a 3 jaw chuck, its much easier than clamping stuff on a RT.

Couple of adjustment knobs for the pan brake. They are not gears or anything of tight tollerance but it seems to work ok.
