Kerry's Super 8 drill press
Few weeks ago I found an old drill press going for auction that I thought would be a fun restoration project because of it's vintage look and interesting drive system. It's a Kerry's Super 8 bench drill press. The design is like most belt driven drills except it has a "back gear" mechanism in the head for speed reduction. It's actually in pretty good condition, so far I've just dismantled and cleaned parts, replace bearings and fixed an issue with the spindle binding. Bit of work to go but I'm looking forward to seeing it in action. Anyway, thought others might be interested to see the machine.

Wow, that's interesting! That's exactly the kind of kit that sends me off down a rabbit hole of manufacturer history...

Very nice, and that's a great design.
So many times you want to go from drilling timber to steel, but the drill press is just not slow enough for anything over 1/2 inch in steel, that's where a backgear would fix the problem.Using Tapatalk
