    Default roof pitch

    hi there!
shortly, i'll be putting up a veranda/lean-to from back wall of the house, almost up to the fence. the height is 3.6 metres and 9.3 metres long. the roofing material is HI Deck profile. i would like to have a low pitch roof to maximize the height, say one degree or there about. would anyone know how to calculate the height of the post for 150mm C purlins that the hi deck is fastened to in order to have this one degree low profile?
    kind regards

just found it guys. 1.746 centimetre fall in 1 metre of run.
might be useful for DIY in future
    kind regards

There are online calculators to help you out.
I've never heard of 1 degree pitch, 2 degrees is minimum as from what I've seen over the years

thanks for the reply Dave J !
HI Deck can go there evidently but 2 degrees looks the safer bet for me also

Hope you don't have any trees around. Part of my shed has a 2.8º slope and is not enough of an angle to wash leaves off the roof so the glue themselves to the roof producing small dams so that water backs up and gets under the side flashing and into the shed. If a stiff wind is going in the right direction it also blows water up under the flashing in the ridge cap but I've got around this by fitting foam between the flashing and roof.

    Expanding foam would work
I did this to minimise drafts under a flashing
Just don't go too crazy with the foam, I had it oozing into my shed lol

low pitch allows water to be blown back under the sheet.

Make sure you turn up the top ends of the sheets.

Wife has some kind of clip in "trim deck" kind of sheeting on her garage roof.
    Narrow sheets etc...
    Near flat roof.

Not sure what degree pitch it is, but one thing I have noticed is it has formed a few low spots over time where water can pool a bit.

Noticed expanding foam (unless the new stuff is any better in this regard?) that it doesn't take too long for the sun to have an effect on it. Under cover well of course a different story.

If it was me would try some thinking outside the box and try somehow to gain more deg of roof pitch. Maybe some fotos.

Hope it works fine 4 u over time, but my experience with near flat stuff (6 houses to date with some portions of main roof/entertain area with this issue) u get the idea...…...
Frisky wife, happy life. Then I woke up. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.
From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

I am in the same spot with a front verandah entertainment area roof.
It's approximately 6 meters long and 5 meters wide.
It has to be at the lowest pitch or either of us will be hitting our heads to walk out the door at the end, as the wife and I are both 6ft tall (and I want to stick with the building code as well)
Other option is I drop the deck height which I don't want to do as that will mean more than one step out the front door into it.
I knew the minimum because I've worked for roofing companies.
2 degrees will just make it, but I'd like more because of the problems that arise as has been raised already.

    Hi Guys,

Noticed expanding foam (unless the new stuff is any better in this regard?) that it doesn't take too long for the sun to have an effect on it. Under cover well of course a different story.
I tried to use some expanding foam a while back to stop a leak in my hut roof. The rain dissolved the foam and left a gooey sticky mess.
    Best Regards:

    hello jatt!
thanks for the info, i do get the idea ok and it only occurred to me yesterday that some of the stuff attached to the back of the house does have a low pitch roof with trim-deck. it never leaked at all, so i might end up with a pitch between 2 degree and a similar look that is there now. iv'e just received an $18 pitch locator from Amazon so i can now do some checking also.
    kind regards
