    Default Kafer indicator

I received this indicator from UK ebay the other day, it was advertised as "in excellent condition"..........
It was stuck good and proper, a clean with acetone and bit by bit it came good.
The next problem arose when I broke the placka thingo, I thought it was just being stubborn and the circlip wouldn't let it go
The placka bit is held on by 3 spring clips under the inner face and there was no way I could get that needle off and I didn't want to damage those bits as well.
Oh well....I am more into function than form so I thought I would work around it, it ended up being 1mm bigger in diameter.

This is what I did and it works like a beauty

Excellent Lathe work! Is that one of those mini lathe machines? How does the blade hold up when you use it on metals like so?

Hi TIG, the material is phospher bronze and it is pretty easy to machine. The chuck is a 80mm mini ĺathe
chuck mounted on a backing plate with an arbour and this mounted in a 300mm 4 jaw chuck.
The lathe is much the same as this https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/l600d
The lathe and tooling thought that they were cutting air on that job.

    Thanks for clarifying

Phospher bronze.. I guess you learn something new everyday! I knew of bronze but not of that specific alloy. I bet that the lathe cut through it like through butter

How do you find having a lathe in the garage? Is it a useful tool to buy?

I think that is the best place for it, much more peaceful there than in the house..

For me (and many in this forum) yes..... but the sad truth is that most ppl these days can't even use a screwdriver so only
you could answer that question for yourself.
