New Lathe Table
G’day everyone I’ve recently started making a new lathe table as the old one was flimsy and not very solid. It had actually sunk on top. I’m just wondering how thick I should make the top I’m thinking around 8mm but I probably only really need sheet metal.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience in what would be good or what might be better in the design?

As long as you're able to bolt the lathe to the frame, sheet metal will be fine, I suggest 1.5 mm and putting a back on it also, as it'll stop a lot of the swarf from falling down the back between the wall and lathe.
Not knowing how you're off for storage, I'd put a couple of drawers either under the bench or down one/both sides, to store the at hand tools, chuck key/s, drill chucks, measuring tools etc. You don't want to be walking around looking for the tools.
KrynTo grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.
