Adjustable Quill Feed Handle
Hi all,
Since I have owned my mill it has not had a quill feed handle. So, after finishing the electrical and VFD parts I decided to make a quill feed handle. At first I was going to make one of the simple fixed handles where you need two hands to pull it out to the second detent to disengage the drive pin to re-adjust to another position, similar to one like this
:https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1X-Bridg...4AAOSwF25bJbN5
But then I really liked the idea of a quick change lever like one of these:

It's much more usable in my opinion.
So I decided to make my own, including the two pin engagement. I hunted the web high and low to get an idea of how these things are put together but details are light on, so I decided to design & make my own.
The two pin positions were centre drilled and drilled using PCD calculations on an app on my phone. That method turned out to be very accurate indeed.
I wanted a lever that had a generous amount of spring tension so that it had nice and positive engagement so I used a decent sized spring. This meant making the housing a little larger but I'm happy with the trade-off. I also screwd the top cover from underneath so that no additional screws can be seen - just an aesthetics thing I thought about.
Overall it was a fair amount of mucking around in order to achieve a nice fit and feel but I got there in the end.
Still yet to make a ball handle....
Cheers,

Nice job Simon.
Funny enough I've been looking at doing the same thing lately as it's been on the projects list for years. I've researched them several months ago, finding patents pictures etc again.
Picture 1 of yours seems to be missing for me.
I'm trying hard to finish me jib crane for this new garage, so I can get back into my few unfinished projects along with this handle.
My 3 spoke handle always seems be in the way, even though I only have 1 of them in.
Will be nice to reposition it.Using Tapatalk

Thanks Dave,
I resubmitted the pics so hopefully it now works.
I would be keen to see those patent drawings!

Here is the twin pin one. I didn't want to put my pictures up in case of copyright etc.

Thanks Dave,
That's useful information although a little late for me!
That's a clever design, in some ways it's simpler than my design.
Cheers,
Simon
