    Default Pickering governor rebuild

    Hi all
as some of you know I am restoring a Pickering governor. I will continue this thread here as it started in the general discussion area and seemed to grow a bit. The first part is here:
    https://metalworkforums.com/f306/t20...achining-setup
To recap I have done the outrigger arm bearing and after a lot of research it seems the previous 'rebuilder' has garnished bits from a (few) different size governor/s. While some bits are almost the same there are slight differences for each size of governor.
The flyballs on this governor are the wrong ones and are well worn so I decided to see if I could make new ones with the limited machinery and tooling I have.
Aside from one massive error it turned out ok.

    Phil

So what was the fix Phil? Weld up (or plug) and redrill, or remake from scratch?

Either way, well done. I especially like the 'improved clearance' tool holder. Is this the same governor that you re-bored or is this another one in the collection? Looking at the initial photo, is the pulley damaged or is that a trick of the light?

PS With a texta, write on that piece glass "remember, you have a surface plate"

A town I used to live in was called Pickering, in the early days, yet the bay was called Wool Bay, which eventually the town was called, if it could be called a town of about 8 houses.
You never cease to amaze me Phil. You turn out some beautiful work and with such limited machinery too.

    Hi Michael
nah, it's the same governor. It's just the more I look at it the more I find wrong with it.
There will be a complete new ball. It would be remiss of me to put a 'repaired' new component on.
The pulley is damaged but will have no effect on the belt that drives it. Most governors are broken on the pulley flange.
If I forget to use that surface plate one more time I will be declaring myself insane...seriously!!

    Hi Phil,

Very nicely done, your skill and attention to detail put my work to shame !

As far as the forgetfulness is concerned, I can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday
