    Default Gmf bench grinder resto

Got this together with the waldown drill press from the previous post. Pics is before and after , put new bearings, sandblast/ hammered blue finish and a stand from an old drill press , new tilting work table for the sander.

Very nice, thanks for the pics of before and after. Nice to see a drill press base being used for a grinder base also, wouldn't have thought of that one.

    Very nice looking result.👍

Are you still able to adjust the height of the drill press table? Or move sideways? Or is the grinder too heavy that it wouldn't be reasonable?

    Sorry for asking so much.
I just got an idea from this.. but i'm not sure should i continue thinking, or should i forget the whole idea.

    Nice work you have done!

The base is from an on Record drill press which doesnt have the rack and pinion style so basically its on fixed height. Though the grinder is heavy , the table supports the weight and its also stable.

Thank you, i know that the table is stable and sturdy. There's no doubt from it.

    I asked about the weight.
Because i was wondering, that could it be possible to open the latch with one hand, holding the weight with another..
Then lower the stand and tighten the latch.

I have been planning to make tilting belt sander for myself, i would like to have height adjustment in it.
That kind of stand would possibly work with it.

But now i realized that gas spring added to the stand, under the grinder could help with the weight, if needed.

I ask sometimes weird questions, i hope that doesn't bother.
Usually it happens, that at the moment i make a question, answer pops to my mind.
But if i don't ask.. That doesn't happen.

That's why i asked. I already know where i can find cheap drill press stand.

    Thank you for the inspiration.

Im with you. I tried what you said, lowering bit by bit is fairly ok but to adjust it up is a bit of struggle. I have attach a pic of a stand i made before .

    LUV GMF .
I reckon they are the Rolls Royce of bench grinders.

The one we had a school got virtually no attention but ran for years.

When switched off it would run on for a few minutes. Is there a currently made bench grinder that will do that?

I have not seen one for sale up our way?

No Grahame, mine's 3 phase 415V. So maybe it's not exactly the same after all. Same same, but different.

I keep threatening to put a VFD on it so I can reduce the speed. The Multitool linisher seems to run way faster than it needs to.
